Many of you probably remember my posting about 3 months ago about a friend that was brushhoging when his loader caught a wild grape vine and broke a large limb out of a tree striking him on the back of the head and neck leaving him paralized. He was making progress recovering from the paralisis, but an infection from the long exposure (spent a day and a half slumped over the tractor steering wheel before he was found) started destroying his organs. While he was still able to talk he told his wife and the Doctors that he did not wish to continue as he was, since he was progressively getting worse and only was being kept alive by machines with no hope for recovery. Last Friday they disconnected the breathing apparutus and he died shortly afterward. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed.

That's pretty sobering and a good reminder to the rest of us. How short life can be and how quickly life can be taken away from us without any warning at any age. To think how quick we are to quarrel over petty things with anyone. Let alone those near and dear when we may never get a chance to say "sorry".

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I think you telling people about this will save other lives. I have many trees that have those vines on them. I will always be on the watch now that I don't snag one.

John,

I remember your earlier post and like the other folks here, am sorry for you losing a friend. I also send condolences and prayers for you and the man's family. Painful though they are, these cases always remind us of the dangers of working around powerful machinery and also how precious life is. Remember the good times you had with your friend and support his family as best you can.

Most would never ever let an animal suffer like this.
I have my doubts about the benefits of modern medicine. Dr. Kavorkein was crucified for giving people what they wanted,to die with dignity and not prolonged pain and suffering.

Sorry for everyone. I am surprised he survived the original ordeal in the first place.

Had a son on machines from a bad car accident. After consulting clergy, had the machines removed. Lasted about 6 hrs. Absolutely horrible.

I'm real sorry to hear that John. Send our condolences to the family please.

I guess, that the only good thing that can be said with regards to this very misfortunate accident that can happen to any of us at any given fluke of a moment as happened to him, is that your friend has gone to a better place, and will suffer no more.

Our sincere regrets and condolences to his family and friends (yourself included) John.

Mark

Sad situation, John, ..... ..... (most of the younger folks can't/won't/don't understand); took me several decades, but I have come to know that there are worse things than death..... .....
