The Clutch on my 1998 5210 with 1250 hours does not always disengage. When I push it in the tractor will continue to "crawl" and the second I tap the brake it stops. At that point it is difficult to shift the gears.(sychnshuttle trans)It seems to happen more often when it is less than 40 degrees outside but does not happen every time. The clutch is adjusted properly and since I do not "ride" the clutch, I believe it is in good shape. Any suggestions from my fellow JD owners?
Thanks for any help you can offer

I think it's time for some clutch work! I had almost the same exact symptoms: when I first started my 8N up I would have to cram it into first at low engine speed because the clutch wouldn't release completely. Once I got it in gear I could go forward but if I stepped on the clutch again the tractor would continue forward for a time, or until I stepped on the brake. My mechanic said he thought the face plate (pressure plate) could be coming loose from being worn down to the rivets. When he cracked it open, he needed to replace the pressure plate and throwout bearing as well. Better get it fixed before it quits altogether out in the woods or in the middle of a busy road! Thankfully, mine was fixed just before the first plowable snow here.

The 5000 series and early 5010 utility tractors from Deere were a disgrace. I bleed green and say that. There is abunch of engineers and executives at Deere that should be demoted to scrubbing floors and toilets by hand. Since they were able to take Deere from the top of the utility market with the 55 series Mannheim built tractor. Down to an embarresment nearing the early versions of the 2010 diesels.

I've heard of clutch failures in the 00-10 series of JD with less than 500 hours of use. This kind of Carraro tranny have a lot of problems here in spain.

It sounds like it might be time for a peek, could be the pressure plate ...
