Guys, anyone else having a problem with a puter varmit called "Med Network"? This sucker takes over my computer almost every weekend. My computer has all the bells and whistles, it has all updates, and yet this "med network" takes over almost every weekend. it becomes my home page, and it takes my favorites like YT Mag. The SUCKER will not let me use my computer. Then monday morning along about 8 a.m. everything is fine. It will work like a champ untill next weekend. And sometimes it will skip a weekend and let me use my computer. If anyone has any ideas about how to kill this varmit, I sure would be much obliged.

I had the same type of problem with a different name program. Go to you control panel, then add/remove programs, soo if there is any programs that you do not recognize, or anything that has anythign with your problem in the name. The nice thing about doing this is you can go to recycle bin and put it back if it something you need. Another thing to try is if you have a newer operating system, you should have restore points on your computor, if you can remember when this started, you can restore your computor to before that and it might get rid of it. It will get rid of any new programs you might have installed, but you should not loose any data that is in your programs you have had for a while. I am not a computor whiz, but this a couple of things I have done to get my computor back up and going a couple of times. good luck

Do you have any anti-virus software? They frequently have firewall options built in to them. Other than that, you can download Spybot Search & Destroy. It's a free spyware removal tool. A Google search will turn up several sites where it can be downloaded. It's about a 4.5 or 5 MB setup file, so it may take a while depending on your connection. It you choose to get this, after it is install/set up, one of the buttons on the Spybot menubar is "Mode". The default setting is "Default Mode", which is a basics-only option. It can be changed to "Advanced", which gives you several tools. You can, under the "Tools" button, click "IE tweaks" heading, and it gives 3 extra options, one of which is to lock the IE homepage against hijacks. You can also set up which programs will run when you boot up your pc, securely shred unwanted files, see a list of all running processes on the pc, etc. It's a very useful tool. You'd be surprised how much unwanted junk gets snuck into your hard drive, especially from so-called "drive-by installations", which are advertising reporting bots that install onto the pc without your knowledge, just because you clicked through a link or banner. Good luck getting it straightened out.

You need to download Mozilla Firefox and use it for your internet explorer,it only takes a sec. and sets it ownself up, then it ask if you want to transfer your micro. explorer setting to that, favorites etc..
Does it all for you and you will not believe the differance,no pop ups,or any of that junk.
But get your hard drive formated to get all the junk out of it,it is probly full of all kinds of junk and get a firewall.
If nothing else get the firefox.

Had the Norton too, I bought; no free download. It said everything was fine, even with on line update and all, and my couputer was like yours; totally controlled externally. My links were routed through Yoga International Magazine of all places in Pennyslyvania.

Bought new hard drive and some other goodies and waiting to see what the next problem is.

So far, so good. K.O.W.

You will like it for sure, but you have to get all of it out of your hard drive which means it must be formated, been there 2 mo, ago.
And get the nortons personal firewall with the anti virus. This is a must.
I did all this and use spysweeper and have no problems anymore.
Its to bad you have to take the time and money to do this but you have to.
But for anyone not at this point yet get the firefox and you will be happy and its free.

Try using a dns other than your ISP the next time the problem presents itself. A list of open dns servers and instructions can be found at support.open-rsc.org

Hum. Looked it up, interesting reading.....

I went to google.com & typed in

Med Network hijack

and got some interesting results. Some ways to get rid of it. It apears it is a problem up higher on the DNS backbone, your computer gets a little tiny bit, & the backbone itself is hacked. I suspect your backbone area is getting hacked with it every weekend, and on monday the powers that be fix it....

Just a guess.

Thanks Paul, I have done the google search many times using med network and came up with nothing. when you add "hijack" to "med network" it's a new ball game. There are thousand, if not millions having the same problem. I did a fix that one of the guys said would kill this varmit, hope it works. I will call the powers that be in the morning and see what they have to say, already have a good idea. Thanks Paul

Those search engines can be: 1. so helpful or 2. so frustrating.

We know the info is out there, just trying to figure out how to word the question! :)

With my ISP, I'm pretty much on my own too. Little local telephone co, they bought out the other 2 providers & jacked up the access charges for anyone else.... They changed their email software 45 days ago, still doesn't work right, they have not transfered our personal settings yet so - I'm getting 30 spams a day, which come to me on an email address I don't even have! 'They are working on it' I was told 2 weeks ago.

Download free trial Giant anti-spyware. It's the best I've found. You will be amazed at what it finds. Microsoft just bought them and intends to include it with XP soon. Blows Adware away.
