Will the rest of a 1950 D hold up for tractor pulling?

They can be made to pull real good. A friend of mine built one up beat the pants off of the G's and those guys got pissed spoiled pulling for him so he parked it. Only problem was getting the front end to stay down.

I could send you a list of the ones I know of that have 7" pistons, lots, myself I only go .125 over so as to save the block down the road for 7" boreing.
They can be made to pull. Just hard to get it to the ground as B&D said, and yes they can take it, mine is on it's 7th year @ 7500#, with no problems, everything from the block back is still what the factory put in it in1938,chains,bearings and all. Shucks they used to lug hard all day long, can't understand the concern about pulling them hard for 2 min at a tractor pull, making them work a little is good.
If you would like, email me and we can talk about it, also show you some proof D's can pull a little
Bob

Doesent the "D" use Chains for the final drive..?

Seems to me they do..!!

May not be as strong as good old "Bull Gears".!!

That 800 to 900 RPM (depending on the model year)is pretty slow for making good HorsePower...

For something built between 1923 to 1953 and intended to burn the stuff oil refineries considered useless. They do pretty good. The short wheelbase and short wide tires are intended to pull best on loose soil in a field. A rowcrop with a longer wheelbase and tall narrow 38" dia rims do better on hard tracks.
