Chester D. Massey started out in the Newcastle Ontario. It runs east from the junction of highways 401 and 35/115. I used to park in the grocery store lot where some of the factory buildings used to be. Still a three story structure on main street. The oak timbers and planks in the floors must be worth a fortune. The family also built the town hall and private chambers for the local Mason organisation. Still there and used by local gov't, a reception hall, bowling alley and abandoned jail cells. Day-care center as well. The local Massey club staged an event and shut down main street with displays one weekend in 2001 or 2002. The town is just a bedroom community for people working 30 to 90 miles away in Toronto. The urbanites were all furious that the town was turned over to "Old Tractors" and simple uneducated toothless rural kicks.. Any upcoming shows will be now at the back of the ball park after the games are over. One of the local farms has a plough day every year. The nearby town of Orno is the last hint of a farming community and still has fairgrounds.

Massey Harris was a large Canadian manufacturer of farm machinery and became Massey Ferguson in the 50's when Ferguson ended it's alliance with Ford. Later Bob

I have some stuff in tractor books, I could look up. One of their big factorys was on King St. in Toronto, they supplied the tractors to pull the floats in the Eatons Santa Clause parade years ago. Email me and I will send you a 1912 pic of the world famous massey harris binder pulled by a team of horses. There was an old saying."The sun never sets on the British Empire." Massey used that in an old ad. "The sun never sets on the fields where Massey Harris machinery works."
