If you are an ebay user as I am,I wan't to caution you to always check locally for tractor parts price before bidding on ebay.I recently checked on a starter push button switch for my Farmall H.
It started out 2.50 more on ebay than Icould buy it at Tractor supply and that didn't include shipping. The same with a carbuerator kit would have cost about 8.00 more on ebay than Icould buy at TSC. It pays to check TSC and local supply houses first. Jusy my 2 cents worth.

Has anyone noticed some tractors that look almost new are listed at around $500 and no bids. These are real nice looking with loader and backhoes etc. When I check further the seller has a thing that a bidder must be approved with the seller before bidding. Is this a way to sell items without paying the high cost at e-bay? e-bay cost have gotten so high seems people are having to find alternative ways to sell. Sorry, this is not an answer to the above question but just curious.

I see plenty of stuff like that.
One example..... ..... ..
Sears had a 246 piece tool set on sale a few weeks ago. Regular price was $249. On sale for $149 at the store or with a rebate for free shipping on line.
Then on top of that if you worked for sears you got a employee discount.

Now I could understand buying them weeks ago and selling now for $175 to $200 because I missed the sale.
But there were people bidding $175 to $200 for it and paying $30 to $40 for shipping while they were still on sale at sears. All you had to do was close the e-bay site and go to sears.com and saved $50.

I also see a lot of tools for sale with the bar code removed. This is same thing. They bought it removed the bar code and sent in for a rebate. This happened a lot when roto-zip was bought out and they were trying to clear the store shelves of out dated stuff.

Parts, tools, or anything else you care to name are all the same way. In the end it's all a matter of knowing what your looking at and what it's worth before you even think about bidding. I just sold a lot of pump parts for a high volume street washer pump for $25. I had nothing in them but the time to write the ad and the fees, which wasn't all that much, so I made about $20 or so clear. In exchange the guy that bought them got close to $400 worth of parts for $25 plus a little shipping. There are alot of great deals out there if you know what your doing....if you don't you'll always be one of those "suckers" that they say is born every minute.

yes, but look at the bids on some of those overpriced items, A lot of them never sell and that don't make nobody no money (except eBay of course!)

I agree. However, the first place you want to check for parts is your local Case-IH dealer. Recently I had to buy a new sediment bowl assembly for my H, my dealer had the unit in stock for under $20, and it was a dead ringer for the original. Local farm supply would sell me a "will work" unit for $25.

You are sure right there! Same with books as well. I generally check on Amazon.com.or.co.uk for new price, availability and second hand prices. Often a better deal than worrying about some of the deals on e-Bay.
Also some "buy now" items can be lower cost than bidding - although this is perhaps something that is better from my side of the pond at the moment.

Absolutly! Cameras sellers especially. Some buyers must never have heard of discount houses.

I've often thought that a fella could make a good living just going to TSC or other places and buying commonly needed tractor parts and reselling them on ebay at a higher cost...and make $ on "handling" fees too...many people who are not real tractor people don't know about sites like these or that parts for older tractors are in such ready supply. They think they are getting a heck of a buy!
