I just purchased an N.O.S. Wisconsin V-4 from military surplus and it has the water proof ignition system that the spark plug wires screw on. I managed to foul a couple of them getting the thing started up for the first time. I did get them cleamed up enough to fire but wonder about replacements? I can run new wiring from the mag and use regular plugs but the water proof system is all in new condition. The guys at NAPA didnt have a clue, can those military spark plugs be purchased anywhere? Thanks.

Go back to NAPA and ask for their Champion spark plug catalog and look in the back. I ordered a set through NAPA about a year ago. They can be found if they're willing to look.

Hi Butch,

I have an early '50s military generator set that uses a 4 cyl Hercules engine. The manual states the plugs to be Champion XEJ-11. They are the fully metal-jacketed, screwed-on connection type that were required for special radio shielding. Your sound like they might be similar. I note at this site that the XEJ-12 replaces the XEJ-11. I think the 12 is the next hotter plug up in the Champion series. Here's another site that gives some additional information.

I've never replaced mine. The engine has less than 100 hours on it and runs fine. At some point I guess I may have to think about it but I will likely just try and find a standard plug replacement and eliminate all the shielding.

Here's hoping yours is something similar and the links assist your search. Good luck. They seem to be $$$.

Just clean them in a spark plug sand blaster
