Farmhand F11 problems

Farmhand F-11B on Oliver 88.
All working well for 4 years.
Yesterday as I was plowing snow and leveling, shaft on right lift cylinder dropped out of cup attachemnt on bracket
mounted to rear axle.
Got it replaced and it dropped and I replaced it several more times as I was working the snow.
Obviously some dynamic has changed in this loader to allow shaft to compress into cylindder
while working. Loader is designed with shaft simply going into cup on axle bracket. No pin or collar to keep it in cup. As I stare at the loader, I cannot see what ever kept main cylinder shaft from pulling out of cup. However, it seemed to work well fro 40+ years.
Anyone have idea what has worn or changed to allow cylinder to compress enough to let cylinder shaft pull out of cup?
ANy help appreciated. pu

Hi Charlie,

On a 'B' model, the ram is held into the cylinder head by a roll pin (#12 in this picture).

Parts Book gives it's size as 1/2" x 2-1/2". Original part # 16934.

Hope this helps,

Allan

Allan,

Great info! Haven't had a problem like the one described, but I'll be ready for it when it happens.

I greatly appreciate your contributions.

Dug, proud owner of an F11 on a JD 2510

Dug;
I've got the same setup (F11 / 2510). Good outfit, as long as you don't let the neighbors borrow it for trying to carry two round bales at once! I think if I look hard enough I can find the original sales receipt from 1973 for the loader which was priced about $1700 installed.

Hey Rauville,

Sounds like you've had yours awhile. I do like the set up, it has done everything I have ever asked it to do.

What types of toys do you have for the loader? I have a grabble and bucket. Can't seem to find many attachments around Kansas. Been told Farmhand was big out west and never really caught on here.

Post a pic if you get a chance, would love to see it.

Now, Darnit Dug!

Put your money where your mouth is. :>)

Go out and take a picture of your John with that F-11. I wanna see!!! :>)

These things are all over around here. On all kinds of tractors, reversed trucks & the like and mounted every which way imaginable. The horsey people like to use 'em to feed 'old snort' in the winter.

Allan: Thank You, this really helps. The diagram makes all sorts of good sense, exactly what I would logically expect. The other day clearing snow in WY,
and lifting the cylinder back in place, not easy by myself and no one at controls, I did not look close, but I believe the shaft was solid and no hole in the part # 19 shown in your diagram.
I will look again this morning. Also, I will check the model ans serial number tags again.
I may be back for more questions. I appreciate the help.

Charlie,

On the F-11C, Farmhand reversed those lift cylinders and they are of a somewhat different design.

However, the "cup" is about the same even though it is now on the front of the loader.

Here's a picture of that big roll pin on my "C" model.

What part of Wyoming? You must be right across the fence from me.

Charlie,

I never paid any attention to the years that they were manufactured; I just like the old things is all. :>)

I have the F-11B manual and will scan it for you, if you like. There is not much to it; only 11 pages.

I live 10 miles south of Chadron out here in the Pine Ridge and the farms are down on the Flats.

Allan: I would really appreciate the scanned manual.
How do we do this and how do I repay you.
Storm should be your way by now.
Had to go to Denver today somehow wifes christmas shopping with relative got more important than fixing the F-11. I believe her mind is changed as we got home to see the drifts and no loader. On the way home much snow and ice. Many wrecks. Had to stop and help one who rolled his Ford pickup right beside me.
It's all old stuff for me also. Built a new shed this year for a place to make repairs. The 88RC has been in our family (colo.) nearly since new. We use many 77's and 88's in hay grinding business with Hydraloaders. Bought this 88 when youngest uncle sold out the business my dad started. The F11 from a neighbors auction. Been a good pair. As I think back I can almost gaurentee when I broke the roll pin in hard dirt around the new sheed. Didn't know it until I needed it for snow and was scraping backwardstreching the loader out. Guess I'll learn.
Let me know how we can do the manual scan and send.
Thanks to you and all on the board for help
Charlie

Charlie,

That rollpin is generic and you should be able to find it at just about any parts outlet or implement dealer. Just take the measurements with you: 1/2" x 2-1/2".

Or just stick a half inch bolt thru it if the rollpin turns hard to find...if a hollow rollpin will hold it, a soft or medium hard bolt probably will too. Fred OH
