I need to adjust the scraper blade and the lift rod won't move. It seems as though the threaded rod has been welded back together after breaking. The top part works normally.

Suggestions? Do I fix it, look for a used one, order aftermarket, go to the dealer, or buy a new tire to raise the right side of the tractor? The other tire is new and that leaves the scraper down 3" on the right.

Thanks for the smile. :)

Well, do you mean the rod is actually welded to the sleeve, or is it so rusty & un-used it won't budge?

Take out the grease zerk, clean, hose down the zerk hole & top & bottom of the sleeve with good penetrating oil - not WD-40, but penetrating stuff - and repeat for a few days. A pipe wrench on it..... Be persistant. Hammer the sleeve to break the rust loose, lets the oil slip in.... Take the unit off, really hammer the sleeve on an anvil....

If the above doesn't loosen it, you got nothing to loose, torch it & beat it & see if it comes loose.

Then get a replacement, salvage yard or so.

Of your options, only 'going to the dealer' will give you bad results - either no longer carried, or it will be made of gold..... ;)

If you just are bumping into the weld area & there are no threads, I guess I'd look to a salvage yard or aftermarket....

The correct part was hanging on the wall at the dealer's, the first thing I noticed when I walked in. It was, however, made of a very nice shade of gold. $133. CDN, taxes included. Nice unit, though, and all ready to grease and install.

On the YT website the same thing was 50 USD. Then comes exchange: 58.00 CDN. Then shipping: anywhere from fifteen to fifty dollars. And a two-week wait. I want to run my tractor tomorrow, so I bit the bullet.

expensive MF 35 right lift rod proves its worth in reply to Rod in Smiths Falls, ON, , 11-26-2004 13:07:14
The new lift rod went on with a minimum of fuss. Then I needed a project, so I attacked the long driveway, carefully cutting the gravel hump off the centre in preparation for winter snows.

The expensive lift box enabled me to use the blade as a grader. I poked along, twisting frantically on the crank, and the result was pretty good.

The new seat (eBay) felt downright comfortable in the light flurries, too. All I have to do now is figure out how to remove the old steering wheel to make way for the replacement that lies on the bench.

The tractometer has so far made its way from California to B.C.

Fedex tracking numbers are how Canadians learn about geography, eh?
