This is the only Store bought Boom Pole I have seen sold so far. It is rated for 1,000 lbs and I wonder if it could support a 3 to 1 safety ratio or 3,000 lbs on the tip? I think it would bend myself. No side load bracing except the light ones at the 90 deg bend and that is mostly to hold the 90 from bending. It would make a nice light weight cheaper Boom Pole but not for heavy loads. This is one of the reasons I built the one I did. Are there others out there for sale than the Easy Hitch one? Thanks, Mark H.

Hey.. That's my tow truck! in reply to Willy-N, 11-24-2004 19:28:30
I have one of those on the back of my 454 International. It regularly lifts one end of the cars in my yard to move them around. Old jeeps are no problem at all, a one ton Chevy was a little much for the tractor weight. The weak point I have seen is the ends that go into your three point lower arms. They do seem to be slightly tweaked form the original position...
Handy to have and a must have if you don't have a loader to lift with.

Howdy Mark,
I just bought a King Kutter Boom like that this week. 2000 lb cap.
I had been thinking about building one to put onto my 2N but for $61 I could hardly have bought the steel.
Of course the first thing I tried to move with it was too heavy so that my front tires came up off the ground.
Had to get used to steering with my brakes all over again. Heh Heh
Happy Tday to you
Jerry

Well hello Jerry! Did they put those ratings on the boom for tip load or in the middle? I was wonding what they said on those lables I seen on the Boom too. Thanks, Mark H.

I've got a boom like the one you show in the picture. It's fairly easy to handle when hooking it up. I have lifted several loads above 2000 lbs with it. I mostly use my front end loader for the heavy stuff, but once in a while, I'll use that boom. It never flinched.

A great deal of the reason for bending a boom has to do with how a load is "rigged". Also, I don't use a 3 point hitch boom to transport heavy loads. Just pick up and set down...

I'm trying to locate the picture, so I can scan it, then post it. I have a picture of a 3 point lift that is used by a local barn builder to raise truss's on barn roofs. It has an adjustable boom that'll reach nearly 25'. Talk about something unsafe looking! He uses it on a Case Industrial tractor with wheel wieghts galore...

Just a few thoughts....John

I think I found that picture last night searching. It is a 3-4 section boom holding a truss way up in the air! Mark H.

When the old Quality stores went out of business, I picked up one of those for 60% off I believe. They also had a heavier duty model, rated 3000# I believe, but it looked heavy to mount & lug around, so I went for the light one. I've seen both this light one & the heavier one (uses square tube) in red or yellow paint at a varaity of ag supply stores.

I see you were led to the Ag-Krane, neat stuff they make.

I have seen other boom poles and other forklift designs at that tractor by net site I mentioned, actually been a quiet topic for a while, but a year ago there were a lot of designs & pics there.

I was wrong on the brand (AG Krane). This model is in the mid size range. They make some also that have tires on the lower part to help support the tractor on smaller units. This unit is just over $3000.00 Most fellows in my area just use forklift masts and convert them to 3 point units. Have more versatility.

Never thought of a set of tires for more weight. I did think of a set of Out Riggers that could offset the weight but not on this size of a boom. Thanks Again, Mark H.
