I have a chance to buy a 4x4 JD750. it came off a golf course,hi hour, needs tires and doesn't run.it had been run on gas and the engine is rebuilt but won't run because the injection system is romanced. This has an integeral pump that you must replace pieces in. Can a backyard blacksmith repair this pump;the local injection service says take it to the dealer. Should I mess with this tractor @ $2500?

I have a 650 JD compact which is the 2 cylinder model like this and I had the pump rebuilt, and the injectors(2)cleaned/inspected and the price was almost $700.00. The pump is intergal and has to be timed through a system of shims controlling the timing. If you remove the pump be very careful to measure shims with a micrometer or very accurate caliper, and record the shim thickness . John Deere sells a shim package for restoring the timing when you reinstall the pump.

Neighbor has a JD 850 model and they put gas in it and ran it until it quit.Dad went down and drained out the gas and put diesel in it and bleed it and it still runs.So some can take this without trouble. I would price a new injection pump from JD before you buy this tractor. Worst case you could buy a new one.

For reference, new pump appears to be $975.00 from Deere.

jdparts.com does NOT show individual parts for the pump.

You might find a blown 3T80UJ Yanmar engine on ebay, or wherever, thas has a good injection system.

Probably best to get a Deere shop manual for it, and check it out to verify what's really wrong.

Technical manual is available by calling Deere Service Publications direct at 1-800-522-7448. TM1242CD is $75.00. (Verify serial number.)
