Hi All.

I am currently in southern Utah. I am planning a driving trip to Louisiana the day after Thanksgiving to see my new grandboy.

I am pulling a 26' fifthwheel which I am well experienced in. My route is planned to take me over I-40 east from flagstaff AZ to Amarillo, TX, US-287 to Dallas TX, I-20 east to Shreveport LA, and I-49 south to my destination.

Given the projected winter weather, would you do it?

Thanks in advance for any replys.

I-40 east out of Flag should be clear then head down I-25 at Abuquerque and catch I-10 at Las Cruces and on to El Paso and then you can "Waltz Across Texas"

I also tend to agree with T Bone but this has been a wacky year down there , Texas has had 3 major snows already this year and rain up and down gulf. But at least you have a motel so you can stay anywere until it blows over. You won't be alone as we call it the blue hairs will be out in masses on roads this weekend for there annual migration to texas. So the road will be full of people driving south pulling campers down the middle of interstate so have fun and watch out for the blue hairs coming to a walmart parking lot near you.

I'm with T_Bone. If you drop on down to I-10 the roads are better and it's less miles to boot. Not many but a few less, plus that it's easier to travel thru the large cities on 10 than it is on 40 and 287.

To see the grandkids, of course it"s worth it. We"ll be going to see ours at Xmas. Gotta travel from So. CA to Denver. We have been doing that trip for 14 years and in some awful weather. But neither the wife nor I would miss the opportunity.
Just be careful and enjoy your visit.

Hi shycarp,

I-40 west of Flagstaff was shut down Monday night from a bad snow storm. I-40 east can see some snow and ice pack clear to Dallas. Not often but it does happen.

If you can't time your trip between storms then you can always drop down to I-10 and go that way.

This time of the year I awlays carry tire chains for both the tow vehicle and trailer. No cable chains!

I10 around Houston has had flooding problems but it should be over with by the end of the week.

Hope you enjoy southern LA.

North Texas and onward should be no problem, just watch out for the other guy.
