One year ago I took a week vac. thanksgiving week, as many of you know the next Mon. morn my wife of 34 1/2 years had a stroke and died on Fri night Dec 5, 2003. Early in Jan. I was involved in an accident by a hit and run driver in Richland , Mo while on my RT., that night got very crazy. Later in Jan. or early Feb I got a new truck, one night I misplaced my spare keys before I went to work. I managed to lock myself out of my truck at Versales, Mo. at 11:00 PM. $50 and 2 hrs later I was back in. Three or four months ago I had my head it a dark place one night and missed a corner so in trying to turn around I backed in the ditch, two full grown smokie bears and $45 for the tow truck I got out. Last Monday night I stopped at the convence store in Laurie, Mo. about 10:30 PM. Went to the bath room got a diet DP and a couple of other things, walked out side and no truck. Called the Police about 10 min a youhg lady in a police car drove in I walked out she said are you Bumper to Bumper I said yes she said get in we have found it. It was 4 tense of a mile up the high way in another convence store that was closed, nothing distrubed except two rolls of paper towels were setting in front of the drivers seat. I know I know I should not have left it unlocked and running. Any way I can use a lot less happenings this next twelve months. Happy thanksgiving, Jim

Jimmy, this may be the hardest post that I've ever tried to deal with. All the little things can be laughed off with time. Those are the types of things that we all run into everyday, and make it rough, yet interesting. Those are the kinds of things that when I see someone having a real "bad hair day", as I call them, I'll ask those poeple "How're ya do there today?", knowing in advance the type of bad answer I usually get, and then I'll joking tell them, "Yeah, but you've had or will have worse, and you'll certainly have better" - and then we chuckle for a second or two, as their mind was taken away for that long, and then back to that grind.

But as far as losing Alice goes, my heart goes out to you. There is no real consolation for that one. I know what it is to lose someone near and dear, someone that I referred to as "God's most precious gift to me in this lifetime", and that's a hurt that never goes away, and a hurt that I still feel countless times every day, seemingly all the time, for over a year now. And she's a person that I mention in my prayers every night, except those nights when I'm so tired that I fall asleep in the middle of my prayers, and then kick myself in the morning when I realize that I fell asleep in the middle of my prayers, but make up for it all day long. But none of that replaces the loss of God's most precious gift to me in this lifetime, nor will it ever. Never ever. But there is some consolation in that alone - the fact that the pain is so strong, and never seems to let up (thank God, and God willing), that it was obviously a true love that can and will never be replaced, not in this lifetime. And believe it or not, that pain actually brings a smile to my face from time to time, because that's all that I have left of God's most precious gift, that and memories of her, and hopes of her in another world when the time comes.

So Jimmy, how will you give thanks? You'll find a way, I trust you. And I'm done posting here today, I took the week off to get that 8x24 tool shed built, and get what I can done on that 40x60 tractor shed, and of course, plenty of fond memories of God's most precious gift. Happy Thangsgiving, just the same.

Mark

Jim: When you came on here one day about a year ago to give us the news about Alice and the follow ups that came, my heart sank. Having been happliy married 39 years myself, I realize there will come a time one of us wont be around. I can clearly see that will not be easy for the remaining half. Having been in contact with you almost weekly since, I think you are coping quite well. You have forged ahead and done your thing, the very best any of us could do.

Now those traffic and truck issues, that one is clearly your age. As we reach 60 and beyond we want everything to be comfortable. I do realize it seems like you have had a few more than your share. Consider this, bought another new to me Buick LeSabre, 100 miles from home, service engine soon light comes on. Drove it home, minor fix. Marg. looked in manual, it said you don't need to be towed, just attend to it soon. Now soon is a relative term, and it still spoiled my day.

In the past year, I've had to be towed with 18 wheeler twice. Once off the Bluewater Bridge, between Sarnia ON and Port Huron MI. A word of advice on that one, don't ever go to US or CAN customs for help, go to bridge toll booth. That one involved a 6 hour wait in pouring rain. The second event was a rented truck while our own was being painted. Safety wise I had no problem with this truck, power train did concern me. Lo and behold this truck died on I-94, MI at about the 12 mile in Detroit, 7:30 am. I called my boss on cell, he said," at least you have a sleeper this time for your wait." I said," guess what this truck has been hauling hogs, I think in the sleeper. With rush hour and 3 lanes of Detroit traffic rushing by, the rig on air suspension never stops shaking."

It does change in time, just seems worse when your older. I well remember when I finally got to my destination that day. I advised them I was never coming to Detroit again. They did make me feel comfortable, I have been back many times. The guy at that plant aren't about to let me forget.

So you drove bumper 2 bumper I used to run western ILL in a pronto truck. Ain't it fun when some one leaves a cat block at store and at 3am they expect you to load it by your self? I turned around in middle of road all the time,just to go back and nail a possum that I missed fun with a 24 footer, And when your truck got moved probley cops they would screw with me all the time.

Jimmy, My Mother and one sister live in Eldon Mo, so I"m familliar with the area from which you come. Danged if I can imagine that much excitement ever in a score of years let alone in one year. Not to minimize the loss or your dear wife, but that aside, doesnt it just go to show you that fact is stranger than fiction? For the rest of the folks here, you live in the Mayberry of the Ozarks. Jimmy, there"s no doubt in my mind that the next year will be less eventful.

well I agree that You could do with a lot less excitment. I haven"t done a lot of semi driving but I have pulled a trick ot two like that in straight trucks. Like try to turn around in the middle of the road and get stuck, because I had gone too far, only to find out that about two hundred yards ahead around the curve was where I was to go. Here"s hoping for a little less excitment for you in the days ahead. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

Jimmy King;

You certainly deserve a better year. I think alot of us can relate to a string of misfortunes that make us wonder what we are doing wrong. I wont relate what my misfortunes were. Just car wrecks and falls all in the course of about a year.

So hope you have a better year in 2005.

Well- Dad was right. He said not to start feeling sorry for myself when things go bad. All you need to do is look around you and someone is worse off than you ever thought you were.

Ray I am not felling sorry for my self, I miss Alice like H, but I know where she is. The rest of it I am just laughing at my self. The peak of the night of the accident was when the tow truck ran out of fuel 20 min out of Springfield.
