HI! I have found out a lot about a WD-9 I wrote about earlier. I have gone and listened to this tractor run and I have a few concerns. Started hard but it is kind of Cold up here in the Dakotas. Once it started on gas it slowly began to sound better. When I triped it to Diesel it took a long time to get rolling. Had to go back and forth from gas to Diesel 3 or 4 times. It was missing on Diesel. Is this due to the fact that the filters may be plugged? The glass filter on the side of the moter looked full of things that shouldn't have been in there. Does the fact it might be cold have anything to do with it? Lot's of smoke as well. Possible injector, cracked head, or gas valve not closing all the way problem. On my Super WD-6 one of the gas valves wasn't closing all the way when I purchased it and it kind of ran the same way. I do know that the WD-9 does have a history of cracked heads. We had one of them on the farm when I was growing up and the Head was cracked all the time. Please give me your thoughts. This is a pretty good old tractor and it has a hand clutch so that is kind of neat. Don't want serious issues with the motor however. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks maestro

How long did he let it warm up on gas before switching. They need to be warmed up good before switching over. As far as the miss it could be a sticky injector, how long had it been since it was last run. Could of gotten some air in the line if it had been a while since it had been run. Yes if you didn't take care when shutting the tractor down properly you could cause engine damage. Pre cups in injector chamber could have cracks, check oil for coolant and check radiator for bubbles. How did it sound once it warmed up on diesel. Might try driving it and riding the brakes and see how it sounds under load. Check and see if there is any seepage around the injectors, the lines that may provide air to the fuel system. Where in Dakotas is it located at????

I am located in Absaraka ND It is 30 miles West of Fargo. I will heave to take the tractor for a drive. It never really seemed to clear up. Just didn't sound correct. The cost is right but I don't want any major overhaul issues. I have a W4 and 6 and would like a 9 to complete the collection. Thanks for your help. Advise again if you wish

How cold? It may have had summer diesel (ie not a winter blend). The summer blend will will gel and cause poor performance. Apply heat to filters and pump and see if performance improves.

They will miss when switched to diesel when not warmed up enough if cyl that misses is low on compression. Did the miss go away when the engine warmed up?

The trasctor never really seemed to come out of the miss. Some white or gray smoke too.
