Fimished welding it up just now and tested it. My tractor could not lift the M-37 up with the boom putting the load back 6 ft back from the Hitch. I had to lift it the best I could and even adding another 150 lbs more to the 300 lbs allready there to the front end I could not get the front wheels back on the ground. So I lifted it up some to strech the supenion out and put a 2 ton floor jack upder the hitch and then got the truck off the ground. It still put the load on the hitch points and the boom. So I figured the boom rated at 1,000 lbs no problem and a safty factor of over 3 times the rating. No way could a Cat 1 Tractor out lift the boom now. Not sure what it would take to bust it but more than 3K on it. The boom is around 40 lbs too not a bad lift for the weight of the steel used. Mark H.

Could you please post a picture of your boom? I'd be interested in a telescoping model if you decide to go that route.

It has been painted and drying right now. Should be able to get a picture late tomorrow. I have thought about a telespoping boom but they get real heavey and the stress is big time when you extend it out to far. What length are you thinking of? My 8 ft boom can lift on the tip 5ft low to 9 ft max. Got the Goose Neck Ball on it now too. Mark H.

now just be careful and don't get hurt tring to over do it and cause something to break and fly off and nail you. If you want to build these to sell it would be in your best intrest to pay an engineer to look at your product you may be able to lighten it up and save some money on future booms and hitches you build to sell, and his seal of approvel Would cover your butt if someone else does something stupid and trys to blame you.

My Father in Law is a Design Engineer from Boeing and served a aprentiship in England for being a Machinest. He allways gets in the middle of these things. PS, I was not on the Tractor when the test was done did not want to be in line with any flying parts. Mark H.

I got my new welder yesterday. It is a Millermatic 210 Mig Wire Feed. Very happy with it so far(not damaged in shipping) but have not had a chance to use it. Used the neibors Millermatic 250 instead. I haven't unbolted mine off the pallet yet. Mark H.

Willy-N, another great machine is the plasma cutter. It uses compressed air to cut with and super heats the air ,very little cleanup needed after. Cuts all metals. Not cheap but i wouldnt be without one once ive used it. It doesnt warp the metal.
