looking for help on a [recently purchases] jd 2030 diesel problem. we have a shop manual coming, but in the mean time looking for help from experienced people,[of which we are not]. the lift is extremely slow, going up or down. it will pick up a heavy roll of hay, but it is slow, with or without a load. we changed filter, cleaned the screen, and changed fluid. still slow. there are no leaks anywhere. ps works great. clutch throwout bearing is a little loud at times, we want to fix the lift first. thanks for any help.

ther are some possibilities for a slow rockshaft lift/
could be a general flow problem in the hydraulic sytem. or a bad rockshaft flow control valve (a valve that restrains lift speed with 8 piston hydraulic pump, it is located at the right side of the rockshaft housing, under a 7/8 inch plug)
. or a leak problem within the rockshaft (dropping lift arms with engine off, and arms lifting when the lowering speed valve (the one under the seat is tightened)may help determining this.or linkage problems on the outside or inside.

Could be a priority valve hanging up. Especiallif there is a change when using the steering. It sounds more flow related than a pressure problem.

It's an closed center system, they use priority vales on open systems. It's been a very long time since adjusting that back when 2020's were new. Pretty certain it's that bolt thingy under the seat on the trnasmisison/rockshaft case. The othe rthree postion lever is the "Load and Draft control. We leave ours in the top detent. If the oil is getting hot there could be oil flowing through faulty systems when it isn't supposed to be. If the trnamission charge pump isn't putting full volume to the front pump, that's a problem. Some of those internal low pressure pump lines that supply the high/low shift and pto have been known to leak. Is the system making 2250psi at slow idle?

thanks again for the replies. well, we will be getting some from help from a mechanic as soon as he can get to us, he has guages etc. if the manuals get here before the mechanic, we will take a look under the rockshaft/transmission cap. we'll post when we get it going. have nice day.

I had an internal leak in the transmission on mine once. It looked as shiny as a brand new coin in that gear case!

Set the 3pt flow lever under the seat faster. The often noisy throwout bearing occurs because people do not read the manual. There is a grease fitting hidden behind one of those round pop off caps on the left side of the bell housing. Now please purchase the service, parts and operators manual cheap at 1-800-522-7448 or from Kim at this site. You may wait a long time for them to come up on ebay. Make certain a trans/hydraulic oil was used in the transmission. 90 wt gear lube will ruin the brakes, high/low shift and the pto. Change the antifreeze to new propylene glycol. The old stuff if tired will allow pitting through the sleeves and block. The propylene glycol is non poisonous and doesn't ruin bearings should it leak into the lube system

thanks to all for the replies. the lever under the seat on the right side, seems not to have any affect, we tried several different positions. there is a bolt sticking up on top of the transmission, directly under the seat, what is this used for? there is one odd thing about the lift, after cranking the tractor and raising the lift control, if you turn the steering wheel, the lift arms will come up real quickly, but this will work only the one time, until the tractor is started again. we changed and put in the kind of fluid you are reccomending. also the anti-freeze. we took off the one of the pop off caps and used a small amount of wd 40, helped a little. will look for the grease fitting. thanks again.

Hmm? Don't know about the 2030, but some Deeres require turning the wheel, such as a 950. I know, I have one. Slow loader, slow 3 point, slow hydraulics. Is in the manual, turn the wheel. Don't know about the 2030 though.

Sure makes it a pain in the a.., especially if trying to use the loader on the move, and that includes dumping the bucket. Lifting or driving an auger, etc. Sure does take getting used to, and with the short wheelbase of a 950, that aint easy.
