Hi I am thinking about buying a 1941 Allis Chalmers C tractor. Although I am not sure what it is worth. The owner is asking about $800 for it, but I think he is a little high. I wanted to post a message about it, so I could see what you guys thought. The tractor is mostly complete, except for a few small parts that I noticed were missing. The strap that holds the sediment bowl on , and a small oil line. The rest of the tractor looks pretty good. The sheet metal is great and would just need a paint job. It has been sitting outside for about 20 years and hasnt been run for that long either. I dont know if the engine is stuck. The tires look Ok, but one rear rim is rusted out. Also the electrical box that shows your battery charge is shot. It also has a wide front on it but the tractor had a loader on it at one time and it really screwed up the front axle tube. Also the sterring joints need to be replaced because there is about 1/4 turn of play in the steering. It also needs a steering wheel, muffler, and a grill. It has a grill on it right now but it is off of an Allis Chalmers combine because the old grill was wrecked. One more thing. The owner said it had a two point hitch but it isnt all there. Only the lift part is there, the arms are gone. I was wondering if this could be converted to a three point. Thats about it. Tell me how much you think it would be worth, and if it would be worth it to take it on as a project. Thanks for reading

Adam.....just getting that thing into a decent working tractor will cost you 100's at minimum. This could turn into a couple of thousand easily. Since a decent running C can be bought for 1000 all day long, the seller is a dreamer. Don't you be. We all take pitty on old iron and want to be a savior, but as Clint used to say "A man's got to know his limitations". Turning an 800 dollar junk C into a 1000 dollar running C for the difference can't be done. Offer him 100 bucks, and walk away if he doesn't jump.

Take Care
Steve

Thanks, Steve
I think I know alittle more about what it is actually worth now. Its definetly not worth 800.

Thanks

I agree with Steve, except I wouldn"t offer the 100 bucks- for fear he might accept it. Just walk away. I know two different guys trying to sell nice C"s and B"s around here, and they can"t get a nibble.

How much did you say he was going to pay you to haul it off, It's not worth much $50 or $100 here in southwest Missouri.

Offer him junk price about $40-50 per ton no more than that,it is a risk anyway as long as it's been sitting outside. It could have a lot of freeze damage that you can not see until you tear down.

You can buy a running C for $800 and you may only have to paint it to have a trailer queen. Keep looking.

Sounds like a $200-300 one to me. I've picked up tractors that ran for less then what your saying he wants

Shaggy, are you talking about Aumann's auction in Taylorville, IL? It is the 26th (parts, toys and memoribilia) and the 27th (tractors and implements)

Its 9 miles north of Seneca on E.29th road to N.3501 road then a 1/2 mile west . It has most of Minneapolis Moline alphabet and a bunch of Farmall tractors too.
Here is the web site for it. (Right out of the Ottawa paper)www.meyer-wegenerauctions.com
I haven't checked it out yet but I will now. Later Shaggy
