Hi Guys,

Snoopin' around machinery lots yesterday and I just now noticed that the manufactures are putting the double-tongue at the tractor hitch now instead of at the implement.

What's up with that? A new marketing wrinkle? :>)

Allan

The round loop hitch is becomming more popular in North America and has always been around the military. Heavy "bumper" trailer hitches for floats towed behind dump trucks have been around for years too using the "round loop". The hammer strap drawbar allows both types of hitches to be used. However farm sheds across the nation are littered with new unused hammer straps removed from tractors and tossed into a corner.

Hammerstrap hitches have been more the norm in Europe for years. Seeing that setup in North America is more a sign of our global community than anything else. IMHO, Deere used to be head and shoulders above the rest in tractor technology, but haven't been since the 55/60 series went out of production. Tractors are like heavy trucks, component machines increasingly more generic. When did mother Deere build her last hydraulic pump, steering valve, hitch valve or SCV? All that stuff comes off someone else's shelf.

I have seen it done both ways for years on Case and John Deere stuff. I beleive Deere called it the Hammer Strap drawbar for some reason. But then again Deere has always been ahead of the curve on new innovations in the industry.

Deere certainly is far ahead of the curve. Recent innovations include tractor engines with more than two cylinders. They have recently discovered the ROTARY combine, new technology which will sweep the nation!

Pantent lawsuits proove otherwise...Case IH seems to copy Deeres ideas on cornheads every few years untill a lawsuit makes 'em go into hiding again.

The one that always amazed me, and I've seen several were the Deere cornheads on the IH combines. Git er done. Indy, how was the mini vacation? Hope you and the missus got a little breather. Later, Harley

Just what the doctor ordered! Thanks for asking.

The Deere cornheads on the IH combines was the end result of IH trying to steal the Deere design. When Deere won several million for patent infringement, they started offering a conversion kit to allow Deere heads to adapt to IH feederhouse's. You will see many Deere corn heads, as well as the rowcrop bean head on IH combines.

No matter what anyone says, the entire industry has been chasing Deere since the 4010 came along. Deere still owns the lead in market share, some 44 years after they wrestled it away from IH. John
