Mornin' All,

I already posted this on the IH side, but just wanted to share here also.

This is the fix to keep the old Farmalls (and some other makes) from breaking in two while doing heavy work under a loader.

Have a good one,

Allan

That is a slick fix to an age old problem with loader tractors. I remember dad talking a bout an H that had broke in two that had a DuAll loader on it. That broken tractor musta been one reluva heck.

Hi RJ,

If you stop and think about it, it is a wonder that all the letter series tractors didn't just up and break immediately. That torque tube is, in all reality, just "a box which is open at the bottom".. Then, we go and throw a load right across it's weakest point. Hmmmmm, no wonder they break! :>)

Farmhand's cure for this was a box frame made from 4"x3/8" angle iron running clear up ahead of the tube. Kind of overkill, but it stopped the M's splittin' in two when under those big F-10s and their 12x14' hay baskets.

Thanks for the hollar,

Allan

Hi Sam,

Naw, that old idea wasn't mine and anyway, it's just a common sense fix that's been around for 50 some years. :>)

Allan, Your tractor looks great. Wish mine looked as good. Also looks to me like the support rods would help keep it all together. I would also bet a dollar to a donut, that the seat had to be hosed down before repair work was started on the broke tractor. Thanks for sharin.

Hi Red,

I've built these things out of rods, flat iron and also, sometimes with just plain old angle iron.

Anything to give that torque tube some strength.

Allan
