This morning I received and email from UPS services. The message read. “Sorry your email did not contain any valid ups tracking numbers.” ,Or something close to that. I was talking to others in the office about that email and they received it as well. I was just wondering if this could be a scam. Could someone reroute a package or do something else if they knew your email address and had a valid tracking number… I just wanted to let everyone know that they may want to pay closer attention to your UPS shipping.. I have no proof that this is a scam. But better to let everyone know then to get burned.

UPS provides registered customers with an email address that you can send a verification number to and get back a hard copy of delivery confirmation. More than likely someone who has this address in their address book has a worm virus that mails itself out. Most worm viruses also can fake return email addresses. It probably found yours in the same persons computer and used it for the return/retply to address. The mail from UPS was an automated reply that tere was no shiiping number in the original email sent by the worm.

No, but the shipper does and gives you the tracking number in an email.

Or someone could drive by and pick up the package left outside? If they knew when and where it was deliverd it would be open season, and lots of folks are gone during the day. And here's another angle. If they drive by and a package is setting out it is a sure be that no one is home! NEVER OPEN UNSOLICITED EMAIL

Don't think so. Once the package is shipped, it goes to the destination. Now if they can't find the destination, they may email you for delivery instructions, or tell you to come and pick up your parcel at the nearest terminal.

But I live in the boonies and they find me every time.

Otherwise it is just so everyone knows where the parcel is at any given time.
