Can anyone help me to find out what kind of tractor I have??
I know it"s a Ford with a Select-o-speed transmission with a pto that is engaged at all time it seems. It has the round silver symbol on the front but I am unable to find the serial numbers to assertain the year. There are no dealers in my area and I would like to get a manual for this beast. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you!

If it has a round silver emblem on the front top of the hood and a SOS transmission it has to be a X01 tractor. Either a 601 or a 801 depending on what engine it has. The easy way to tell them apart is by the grill.
The model and serial # will be just behind the starter. Look here..... ..

Go to This web site and look around. It will tell you every thing you need to know on how to tell which tractor you have.

If it's a row-crop it could be a 971 or 981 as well - Were there 701 series SoS machines, there were no 700 series machines sold around me it seems so I'm not familiar with those at all.

The pto is not working right, it should be a live pto - lever(s) behind your left heel, could be either the x7x which is live, or I believe the x8x also has a ground speed selection....

The original owner's manuals I have seem to indicate a 771 was offered, but I've never seen one.

Numbers should be stamped into the metal above and to rear of starter motor.Sounds like an SOS "hundred series" or "01 series".Any number cast into the nose medallion?Or whats is the design there?
