Have this green thing sitting in the shed. Somehow lost my fuel cap (which was black). Went to the green dealer and got a new one.

Clerk laid this RED thing on the counter. Says I "I'm not putting that red thing on MY tractor".

Clerk says " Green's only had them on 'em for the past 35 years".

Yuck!

Went home and got out my I&T manual which has a picture of a nice green 3020 tricycle on the front cover..... .yep. On top, in front of the radiator is a RED cap.

Oh well, some days it just doesn't pay to get up.

I'ma just assuming that after a few hundred owners of this new tractor (in the early '60's ) filled their fuel tanks with antifreeze, someone decided it was best to identify which of those 2 caps were which and the one with the red cap was the tank that made the whoopie.

Now about RED. Have nothing against them. My first tractor was a "B" and second was a 464. Just happen to find other things for sale and the dealer sold out and left. Only dealers here now are green and blue.

Gotta do whatcha gotta do.

Mark

Hmmmm. Makes you wonder. My Grandpa could not read but I never heard tell of him putting antifreeze where the gas goes.
Maybe thats just the guys buying green tractors.

As long as I can remember, John Deere tractors have had red fuel caps, and black radiator caps.

It's a version of an old joke..."Do you know how to make an International Harvester tractor run right? Jack up the radiator cap, and run a GREEN tractor under it".

Thank you, Thank you very much. John

Just joshin' ya! The first 2 tractors I owned were a 1974 3000, and a 1973 5000 (with a M & W turbo kit. It was turning almost 100 HP. Not too shabby from a 67 HP stocker) It's just an issue of color. I live in Kentucky, and call Indiana home. I'm a BIG I U Basketball fan, That means I have to despise Univ. of Ky. (Who's colors are BLUE and White) Can't own ANYTHING blue anymore. John

I"m expecting one of these days, that IU and UK will play football, and they"ll BOTH loose!

This is "payback" year when basketball season gets here. GO BIG RED! John

John,

That is PRICELESS!! If anybody could could figure out how to score negative points UK could in football.

I'm not sure of how IU does in football except for one game. I know UK almost never fails to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in football (Sox had the curse of the Bambino, wonder if this is the curse of Bear Bryant)?

Now about this basketball thing...(wondering if Bobby Knight left a curse).... :-)?

Football teams like Indiana and Kentucky are perfect examples of why the BCS is the biggest rip-off since the invention of the mafia. IU and UK can go oh-for-the-season and still get a big fat BCS paycheck because they happen to be doormats in the right leagues. In the meantime, schools like Utah, Boise State and Louisville can bust their butt building a great team, but they can't get in a big-money bowl. Hell, last year Utah LOST money by going to the Liberty Bowl after deducting expenses. Louisville is solving their problem by joining a BCS conference, but what about the rest of the country? Well I'm really hoping my Utah Utes can hang on to their current ranking and bust that BCS party to at least show the rest of the doubting country that we really can play football here in the mountains. Miami? Gee didn't they lose a conference game to UNC? And did't UNC get worked by Utah by about 30 points? The biggest difference between teams like Utah and Boise State is that we can't stock the roster more than 1 deep. BCS schools who get the big paydays on New Years Day can afford to stock blue-chippers 2 and 3 deep. Utah is good, but we're hanging by a thread....and that thread is named Alex Smith. If he goes down with an injury, we're toast.

Bobby Knight....Curse....? In the same sentence? I can't imagine that! I do miss his "floor show" that went along with the game though...

We're looking at a good season this year. Loads of young talent.

IU shocked the Big Ten by winning at Minnesota this past Saturday. So now they have their one victory of the year....

I have the sports on TV right now. They're talking about UK having the WORST rated offense of any major college in the nation. How did they ever wrestle that title away from IU's football team?

Have a great day! John

John,Thanks for the ego boost; er ah not crazy for the "txblu" handle. Hear you about the color thing.

Bought a jacket at a men's store once. Twas blue and white as your school. Found out when I got home that it was the school jacket for my oldest son's competeting high school. His colors were black and red. Oh well.

Whoppin 5000 you built. Wow.

Really, I'm a value guy. I buy what looks like a good deal with the amenities that seem right for me.

My operation is a hobby and only work 80 acres; part leased. My 4010 is the tugger and does the big work; Added a Kroyker loader last year for settin round bales on 18 wheelers. It's a nice rig and definitely Cadillac as compared to the others....course you know that.

I have open stations on all my stuff for 3 reasons: 1, Cost, 2, access to things to fix when broken, 3, my antique stuff always needs a hand and I'm on and off all the time, and I guess 4, I like to be there with it; the dirt smell, fresh air, dust blowing and all that makes it what it is.

The Fords are the errand boys as they are so handy and simple to fix and seem to stay fixed, plus they can be bought at a reasonable rate considering they're popular cause they're handy and parts are readily available.

Having a green and blue dealer on the way home from work surely doesn't hurt either..... especially when the service manager lets you brouse his $300 service manuals for free.

Nice Chat,

Later,

Mark

Not a problem really and it's for a good reason. Just couldn't believe I was in a green dealer and he whips a red cap on me. Startled to say the least.

Yeah! That's what's interesting about this site. You have this diversity of guys like me, newbies, guys that have been making a living for the past 60 years at it, guys with 100,000 acres and equipment to manage it and all, and all the dabblin in between.

Then there's the geographical differences, hills, rocks, mountains, clay and sand, swamps and all.

Makes it nice.
