I was in the shop once when a friend was taking the weights off a JD. He just straddled the axel and grabbed the weight by the notches and pulled. Apparently it was heavier than he expected and he dropped it pinching something vital against the axel. He didn't do pain very well either. Ed

The way I romove them is pull the whole wheel lay it down weights up and then use a come-a-long etc to lift them off.

Old, that seems to probably be the easiest way, if indeed there is an easy way. The best way I have found is to get my son and my step-son involved, all I had to do was loosen the bolts and tell them to be careful.

must be nice to have help like that, all I have is me and my tractors and a shop with a 3 ton chain hoist. But I do have 4 tractors with loaders so lifting is little or no problem. And if those loaders aren't big enough I can always jump on my friends Cat 950 loader if it will not lift it I'm in trouble.

I usually have to wait until they are already here, which is usually not when I could really use some help.

Hi guys, I know this might not help any on the inside weights, but on the outside farmall weights I have an overhead beam with a chain hoist and I built a bracket like a square letter "c" with an eye in the top, hook the chain hoist through that eye, slide the lower leg into the center hole of the weight, undo the bolts, slide the weight out onto the bracket, and just slide the whole thing down the overhead I-beam and set them down. I can change 4 weights on each side in about 30 minutes. I'm like you guys, when you get to be our age, a little time to think of ways to do things a little easier is a lot better than pain, and it makes us look soooo smart in the wives eyes. Later, Harley

Thanks Sloroll. By the way, I see you're from Grinnell, I grew up and lived for 35 years within five miles of where I was born, in Oakland, Iowa, just west of Atlantic, before I moved down here to the Ozarks in 1985. Good to hear from a fellow Iwegian, but I don't envy you those unbearable winters. Later, Harley

My sister lives in Atlantic. I don't deal with the heat well so I think the Ozarks are out. I've noticed as I get older I don't handle the cold as well as used to either. If I were born a goose Eh? My best to you.
