Hi Cowman
If you want to get in touch with a bunch of light plant collectors.
Just do a search for "Harrys Old Engines" Then click on the "Spark Arc's" link You will find people there that can answer any of your generator questions and might just find some buyers also!
They helped me out with my old "Delco 850"
Got a nice classified section too!
Bob

Put them in the garden and see if they grow into heavy plants?
Get them running and just set back and wait for the next ice storm, hurricane, or whatever and have them up for sale?
Regards, RAB

I live within 40 mi of where the Kohler plants are. Same as plumbing, but a different plant. Before the 40's the folks had one on our place and as Slorol said they were 1 cy and 32 volts with the gass batteries that they charged and you had to have much heavier wiring because of the low voltage. Anyhow they are still making them in a plant north of Sheboygan and I'm thinking you have a much later genrator. Check the name plate. Bill

To bad Allen wasted all that money on a Honda generator.... I have seen those sell very well and almost give away. I think they would be fun to play with but there must be subtle differances in them that only collectors know. Saw two sell at action a couple of years ago the good looking one went quite a bit cheaper than the other. I couldent tell the differeance.

Hi Bill,

Nothing against Howard's light plants, but I still would have probably gone with the Honda. A quick look here and I count 8 computers just as a skeleton system.

I really needed that built in voltage regulator/conditioner. Could have bought the same size generator at the local tractor supply for a fourth the money, but passed on it because I just couldn't gamble with our business.

And in all honesty, I'm too darned old to have to work a real job! :>)

Later,

Allan

The 4 cylinder plants ran at 1200 RPMusually but some of the big ones were up to 1800 RPM. They are exceptionaly dependable and can run on only 2 or 3 cylinders and still put out their full capacity. Depending on the muffler used they could also be very quiet. These put out 120 volt and often were capable of being set for automatic starting when a 40 watt or more light or appliance was turned on. Generally they were 12 volt ( two 6 volt batteries in series ) or sometimes even 24 volt ( two 12 volt batteries in series ) for starting and control. Can you guess we used them for years?

If they are big and heavy, why are they called light plants?
