OK I know TRACTORS!! But I have a frustration that has driven me to this. I own a small business as I know many of you do. When I come in in the morning I am greated by, sometimes, piles of advertising fax (faxes?). Heaven help the person that leagaly leaves their fax number at the top for I will send at least twenty sheets of black their way. This dang ink is $48 a cartridge and I'm constantly running to buy paper for "MY" use. My machine has a timer on the ink jet so it will not allow me to refill the cartridge either. I am on the "No Call" list too. I am not a wealthy man and figure I should not be paying for someone else to advertise when I have a hard tme with that part of my budget. WHAT TO DO?!??! Help me Obiwans you are my only hope. (I don't look anything like Leigha) WOuldn't my money be better spent fixing up this old Regular?? There, I new this had something to do with tractors!

My boss got tired of all the sales faxes received at night, numbering at times in the double digits. She thought she got a great deal on this fax machine until she had to start buying carbon rolls for it. After I informed her that the faxes were costing her about 50 cents per and $20 for a carbon cartridge, she let me fix it right. All her faxes after hours came into a desktop computer that was on all the time anyway. The Microsoft software can collect any incoming faxes without printing them. After I showed everyone how to do it, it took minutes to look at each fax on the screen. She could delete the garbage or print the keepers on her laser printer. I don"t think she used a carbon roll in three months after I set it up. Check your technical support or local computer geek to set you up. You probably already have the answer under your fingertips.

I use CallWave. All the emails come to my email, in it's own folder. I print only what I want. It's $4 a month for this service. Saved me desk space, a second telephone line, and expensive fax paper. You have your own private direct dial telephone number. It is also nice if you want to save a fax for viewing later. Works just like email.

How about hooking up a caller ID box to the line? Not everone has the intellegence to block their number and it would keep a record of the incoming contacts. They would be impressed/surprised that you tracked them down I"m sure.

A funny fax related story: I have a friend that runs a tool and die shop on the west coast and he and his co-workers decided to play a trick on another business owner that they knew. Back in the days of thermal faxes when the paper was on a roll that was cut to length per page, at the end of a Friday they dialed the other guy and slipped 3 pages in the machine that were taped end to end. When the first page came out they looped it around and taped it to the last page. On the loop they had written "F--- You". On Monday morning the buddy found a sea of paper in the office with a recurring message. And yes, the fax was out of paper.

Ah, the good old days

And to make matters worse, over the weekend, the fax runs out of ink & paper, so the legitimate one do not come through. Also, the scam faxes seem to have large areas of black, so they use enough ink to print dozens of normal pages..... .. Good idea on faxing back solid black pages... :<)

Yup, I have missed several thousand in sales because I did not respond to a faxed business proposal. I could rip gizzards out! I have a beef with another couple of companies that come in and out and use my fax as their own too. I have pulled up to fifty three fax off my machine for them in a day. If they would even ask first it would help. I have started to charge them and they are indignant for it.

WHEW I FEEL BETTER!!! Sometimes screeming alone doesn't do much good for the soul.

Get the software called Winfax Pro. None of your faxes will print out unless you want to print them. They stay in a log where you can just delete them.

Hey Great! I'll look into it. I sure hope the people I sent all that black to didn't have that software.

You can also get yourself an efax number, and all your faxes will come into your email

Just search the Internet for EFAX.

Or clink on the link below.

Yes, Efax is good. It is free if your incoming faxes don't exceed 20 per month. After that you have to upgrade to an account that costs $4-$5 per month.

I had a free account until the spammers got ahold of my efax number. Efax cancelled my account.

Although I haven't got around to it, I can open up another free account and get a new fax number. It will probably last two or three years until the spammers find it.

If you need a permanent number with a local area code, you will have to pay the monthly charge. But I like the whole concept of having faxes come in as email. They can be stored or deleted in a file on your computer.

I know it's tough to do anything about it if there is no originating fax number, but advertising via FAX is illegal. It's against the law to send any advertising that costs the recipient expenses to receive it.
