Blading Snow - Yes or No

My only option for snow removal is a 7 ft blade. Would you guys blade the snow or leave it on the drive? My brother is under the belief that blading causes more harm than good in that blading it builds up the sides which will lock in melting snow to freeze and cause the driveway to ice up.

I live outside of Kansas City and snow fall is usually light.

Any tips or recommendations on maintaining the driveway throughout the winter would be appreciated.

I aint never heard leave it set in the drive before. That"s a new one. If the melting and freezing of the piles causes icing in the drive, I wonder what the melting and freezing of packed snow would do in the drive. My guess is icy ruts. When it snows here, I plow, blow, and shovel. Have all my life. And if is a good snow, don"t stop so don"t get behind it.

Here"s one you might try. Could push into a big pile at the end of the drive, and at night time when the neighbor"s lights go out, use the loader to go dump it in his drive. Don"t get caught though, cause he"ll surely get PO"d - always has.
LOL.

Don"t blade? Where"s that guy live, Florida? Then again, maybe I missed something and spoke too soon, without thinkin, and maybe should"ve kept my mouth shut.

Mark - IN. and it"s rainin a steady one here, dang it.

I go with Bo. I'm in NY also. I sometimes get the banks over 6' high on both sides of my road. When you scrape it down close to the gravel the sun warms it up and the remaining snow melts. You end up with a clear drive till it snows again. Yes I do get a few spots with ice flowing across the road but as soon as the suns out again they melt. I have one big area that is shaded by a large pine, I'm going to cut it down.

No problem.. I clear 500" of drives with a 7" blade hyd angle and a box blade on the back and many, many people here clear with truck service. I use the JD. Incidentally, I live in the Buffalo N.Y. area. We get a bit of snow.

Hi. Dug.

It sounds alright, only if you don't get much snow fall. Up here, if you got 6-8 inches some day, clearing it out like what your talking about and you will end up with "banks" on each side -guessing 12"-24" depending width of lane. Then with a little ground drifting, you would have a lane with 12"-24" of snow, in a matter of a few hours.

Perhaps once you get some snow, turn on yt tractors, and being down there you can wait it out.

Once finished blading, raise the blade, set to angle, and knock down the ridges left on the sides and you should be just fine.

Loren,

That is what I was thinking. Maybe even turning the blade backward when knocking down the ridges.

Thanks,

Dug
