1953. That is in the USA. Im told Ds were made in other countrys years after they stopped making them here in the USA.

I've never heard that about the "D"s. I have heard it about the 730s. Apparently they were built in Argentina until the early 70s. I'm thinking that a lot of the "D" tooling would have been pretty much worn out by the end of production, and not suitable for shipping overseas for continued production.

Obsolete and still outselling a LOT of it's "modern" competitors. The "D" was popular until the end of production and to quote J.R. Hobbs, was a "known quantity". Farmers knew what it could do and knew it's legendary reputation for reliability. Many of the later ones were also exported to countries where they would have been state of the art, compared to farming with livestock. The tooling had also been paid off long before so it didn't cost Deere beans to build them. Until you've had the experience of actually running a "D" in the field doing the job it was built for - plowing - you really can't understand just how neat of a machine they are. Since Deere managed to sell well over 100,000 of them, a lot of farmers agreed.

1953 with the last of the tractors being assembled with hand tools on the "street" outside the plant. Hence the name "Streeter D".

Ninety two model "D" tractors were assembled in the roadway between the Waterloo factory buildings during June and July in 1953 from surplus parts in order to fill dealer orders. These are rare and sought after by collectors.

The 1924 model D cost was $950. What was the cost of the 1953 Model D?

1953...positively...maybe...I think so...not sure...just guessing. I was born in "53, so I think it was discontinued in my honor, yeah, that"s the ticket!

I know i read somewhere that it had a real long run due to it's size vs Hp ratio.

I'm gunna guess 1955.

I like the idea of trivia and although I don't always guess I would like you to continue.
