I was traveling North on interstate 85 in here in Greensboro, NC the other day and to my astonishment I saw a large 4X4 articulated tractor pulling a tank type trailer that appeared larger than a semi trailer traveling at what appeared to be maybe 55 going south on the interstate. It was orangeish or yellowish and unfortunately I didn't have time to get off and back on and catch up with it to take a look. I think I saw Fast Trac written on the hood. Does anyone know where I can find any pictures or information on this tractor?

Thanks Joe, Rab and Roy. Yes, I think that's the tractor I saw. Of course I only got a quick look. I assumed it was articulated as every tractor I've known that looks like that was. This section of interstate is marked 55mph but everyone does 65. That tractor was moving but, the cars were moving faster. I just wish I had time to get off the interstate, back on an then catch up with it to get a speed and better look.

I can only assume his being on the interstate was related to construction several miles further down the interstate. But he must have taken the trailer somewhere to be filled or something. It was an off road style twin axle tank trailer with 4 large baloonish tires. It appeared much larger in diameter than semi tractor tank trailers but might not have been quite as long.

Now how did he get away with operating farm equipment on an interstate it's against the law in all 48 states. I have been thru ever saw the little sign that states what you can operate on this road.

Yes, I rarely see equipment of any kind on the interstate in with traffic. Even the mowing crews stay on the shoulder. I guess he figured he was fast enough to get away with it and like I mentioned I can only assume he was heading to the construction taking place a few miles down the road. But he came from somewhere.

Ok, I have seen motor graders removing the snow w/traffic.

The JCB Fastrac powered by either Perkins or Cummins engines. They are Built here in Britain. They do not have articulated steering but 4 wheel steering is optional on some models. Loads of them over here, you either love them or loathe them. A bit of a hybrid between a truck and a tractor, brilliant for road transport as they are so quick. Maybe less succsessful as a plowing tractor but good for "Top work" . The earlier ones were plagued with reliability problems ( they are a very complicated piece of kit) but the newer ones I am told are much improved.

Something like this? From what I've found they appear to possibly be European or possibly Japanese sold in Europe and Asia/Aus/NZ.Found pics of 2-3 sizes and also road tractor cab style versions.A lot of non US tractors have high speed roadgearing, though Interstate speeds and legality seem unlikely. Will hunt a bit more for Mfg info
