Have 7800 Deere, diesel, older model. Can not keep fuel filters clear. We have removed tanks, cleaned VERY well, replaced and filters still clog with black substance after about 4 hours.Run 5 other tractors out of same bulk tank with no problems,so supply is not the answer.Black substance in fuel appears not to be solid pieces, but like tooth paste.Dissolves when rubbed.I remember in 1993 when low sulpher diesel was introduced, and we had problems with o rings in Cummins dissolving and had to replace. Is it possible my fuel tanks are being eaten by diesel?I have been using additives. This has me whipped.

That might be algae growth in the fuel.

Have you talked to your local John Deere dealer about this? What you are describing sounds like the same problem that plagued some of the JD tractors a few years ago. The "cure" consisted of pouring a liquid fuel tank liner into the tank, very similar to what we have to do with rusty tanks on old tractors. Talk to your dealer, he probably has the "cure" on his shelf, or can tell you where to get it.
