I have minimal experience operating tractors and have just purchased a JD 2355. I was reading through the operating manual to learn the tractor and controls. The manual is not very in-depth concerning adjustments and procedures for connecting implements. Are there any sources (books) available that discuss tractor operation/controls ?

Hello Spike. As I read your post, the first thing that went through my mind was to find a farmer(s) or impliment dealer(s) to ask questions and to show you. They say that the only dumb questions are the ones not asked.

Tractors and impliments are very dangerous, and trial and error could cause injuries or much worse. Books often give great pointers, but the best way to learn is to do it "hands on", under the guidence of someone experienced.

Good luck, use it in good health, and TALK TO FARMERS OR DEALERS THAT KNOW. You just might be surprised at what a farmer would be willing to share with you, and how much he or she might enjoy doing it.

Don't let yourself or a family member get...

Spike I agree with the others find a farmer , on a tractor life can end in less than the blink of an eye. so learn from a old pro, enjoy your new toy.

John Deere Publishing has an excellent series 'Fundamentals of Machine Operation' that will answer many basic questions pretty generally for all parts of the US.

Yep offer to help the farmer do work for the experience, sort of an apprenticeship. You will learn a lot and might even make a new good friend. Many things about operating tractors, implements, farming are not written down anywhere I can find.

My suggestion is to find a farmer to show you how things should be done. Much easier & safer than trial & error. Most tractor guys would not mind spending several hours showing you.
