I would like to locate a snowplow blade for my 8N. I have thought about making one, if I cannot locate one. What is best, a rear mount or a front mount. It seems from the pictures of rear mounts that I have seen that some of them work by driving in reverse and some by driving forward. I have also seen blades off of the front of 8Ns. I have no lifter mechanism on my tractor. What would be best and what might I expect to pay and what accessories will I need to rig the blade? Thanks, Tom

Check on the N Board- ask for Ultradog. He rigged a front blade that uses the lift arms to lift the blade. Simple cable assembly.

It is easy to put an old blade off a pick up on front, you will have to find a welder to fab some brackets. most of these blades have a 12 volt pump to raise and change angel of blade. around my ares old blades start at 450 and up. Also if you go this route have a barrel full of concrete you can put on 3pt in back gives great traction for pushing wet heavy snow, chains help this also.

Ultradog made a front mount plow using a hyd cyl connected to the 3 pt arms, raising the 3 pt would force oil to the front mounted lift cyl. The system used 1 hose and was a neat design. I searched the archives how ever could no find the picures.

Looking through some some of the thousands of pages I've printed there was a cable lift powered by the 3 pt and a tractor jack which used the 3pt but the hyd system was far better.

Now that you mentioned the hydraulic cylinder part, I think you are right- I thought there was a cable system involved. Actually, a cable system would work if you came up with the right dimensions and configuration of arms, supports, etc. Poster should raise a shout for Ultradog- I lost his address- it used to be something like rr.mn, etc. Just reemembered, my sil is also on rr- I'll look it up and repost.
