I am about finished rebuilding a B Farmall. I need to get some new rear tires. I need to know what size would be best suited for this restoration. The old tires were 9.5/9-24 6 ply. These were on 8" rims. I understand the numbering size has changed several times over the years. I am told that I need a 14.9-24. Thanks for any input ...jmh

JMH, It would depend on the width of your rims, but the normal size for your "B" would be the same for an "A" which is 9.5x24. I suppose you can go up a size which would be 11.2.24, but that would be a stretch. Anything larger with 8 in. rims would distort the tread profile.

JMH, I recently restored our '46 B and put 11.2 x 24 tires on the rear.

The old size was 9, with the new size the 9.5 with your tires marked with both sizes, both old and new. The 14.9 would make an Indy racer out of it, the size you want will still carry the same number on your curant tires.

The numbering system changed once, about four decades ago. The 9-24 is something like 10.2 or so now. Check with a tire dealer for the exact comparison. A 14.9 would be the old 13 inch tire.

I've reposted this a few times since finding this article here. I can't now due to computer crash from downloading windows SP2. Search for my post of this reprinted article about tire size changes. I think it originated on the allis chalmers site.
