Most of the time you can remove them and scrape the dried up crud out of the part. I had a king pin that wouldn't take grease even after cleaning. I took the check valve out of a zerk fitting (grind a little off the threaded end, they're hard)put a tube on the fitting and filled it with kroil. After a few days i was able to get grease flowing through the part.

Ron's right on the money. New grease zerks cost pennies, take little time to replace. Replace them. And make sure your grease gun is seated on the zerk properly. Oughta work just like that.

If the fitting has dirt in it, replace it. It makes no sense to force dirt into a part you're trying to lubricate.

If you are dealing with old, solidified grease, any auto parts store will sell you a hand impact tool that you fill with oil and whack with a hammer that frees them up every time. Be sure to get one with a flexible hose to get at those fittigs you can't get at straight on.

Might not be common..... but only way I can get the fittings for the kingpin on my MF 245 to take grease is to lift weight off of it....I just pick it up with the bucket of the skidsteer , & grease goes in easy..... ...

definitly use kroil. its called areo kroil it puts wd-40 pb blaster etc to shame. the stuff is very very very expensive but worth every penny. never found the stuff at stores only over mail. it is make by kano lab"s. in fact the website is>Link
personally>Link i recommend
Weatherpruf Clear Rust Preventative - 1 Year Protection
Prevox Rust Preventative and Lubricant
Exrust Rust Remover - Fast - Easy to Use yes those are the correct spellings. i know aloto of people got alot of "penetraiting oils" and everyones got the "best". but ive honestly used pb blaster liqued wrench wd 40 etc ect alot alot and this stuff honestly works. i know from experience not from word of mouth. i also have a grease buster from shoup it may take 3-6 times squirt some in wait for air bubbles to settle fill settle etc pound it in 3-6 times or as many as it need and it will work. patience is a virtue. also dont know waht you are doing but somtimes changing the position or weight distribution sometimes help somthing take some greese. off hand i can think of the disc we got youd think itd work better on the ground no pressure on the spindles but dont work. got to have her in the air and shell take. hop this helps.

hi, shocker. the gadget that brian g. referred to works great. i think i got mine off the mac truck but believe lisle?? makes it. if you have @ 6" to use it, it'll knock it open. the downside is that also blows the chunks into the piece also. i guess it's better than no lube. good luck fred

If it's in an easily accesible area, I like to use my small propane torch. When the grease starts bubbling out, put your grease gun on it and pump away.

I remove them and put them in carb cleaner, then I push some grease through them and reinstall

I picked up a neat little gadget at a garage sale early this summer. It is a little ram which you fill with grease, apply to the fitting and strike with a hammer. Looks like it should work butI haven't run into one of them tuff B@stards to try it on since I got it.

Whenever possible I take out old clogged Zerk fittings and replace them. I've found that's more time efficient than messing with a clogged one. The fittings are very cheap. I get them online from Fittings and Adapters (link below) very reasonably. You can get almost every size and neck angle in both SAE and metric in small quantities. They also sell a neat little snap on cap that keeps the Zerks from getting dirt and grease encrusted. They work pretty well except on things that rotate at high speed.
