The UK has gone mad

The ******* goverment has just passed an act to ban fox hunting. They used the parliament act to force it through the house of lords, who were against it.

It is all the "townies" who dont know anything about foxhunting or the conutryside who are in support of the ban.

So, there going to shoot thousands of dogs to stop them from killing vermin, then go out and shoot the vermin any way.

Whats worse for the fox, beig killed almost instantaneously by a hound, or being shot in the leg and dying under a bush in agony?

A 13 year old boy was killed when out lamping with 3 other people. Tragic, i agree, but it whows that killing with guns is far more dangerous than killing with dogs.

Many people in the UK depend on fox hunting for there livelyhood, its just another big blow to the countryside, and they complain about the cities expanding!

A lot of people will carry on regardless, but some wont, and those some will make all of the difference in my opinion.

And the goverment are being very sneaky by not introducing the act for another 2 years - after the election! Well if they think people in the countryside are going to be stupid enough to ever vote for labour again, theyve got another thing coming.

Just my opinion, Some of you may have different opinions to me, but what ever.

A thoroughly p****d off Ben

One of the basic requirements for democracy to function effectively is tolerance; wherein people must choose not to poke their noses into things they don't understand, and which don't affect them, just because they can.

Sums the whole thing up nicely in my opinion

Don't get me wrong I am a avid sportsman but I would support it. I live in ILL and I have not saw a fox in 10 years. I think they need a break for a while so the numbers can increase. I am afraid they will disappear for ever in my area unless we do something now to save them .

I dont have a problem with people supporting the ban. Its just when the goverment only listens to that side that annoys me.

More than 50% (cant remember exact figure) of people in the country say keep hunting. So, how can they ban it!

Hey ben, been reading for a couple of years that this might be gonna happen; those of us with a libertarian mind-set have watched for years the gun confiscation programs in the UK, Canada and Australia..... knowing that our time is coming. Certainly have no answers..... suppose it's just the result of more folks in the cities and each generation getting further removed from their rural roots. I'm about 50 miles from Memphis, TN, which has a metropolitan area population of about 1,000,000 people. 50 years ago, if I said to someone (anyone) in Memphis that my Dad was a farmer, invariably the response was, "My Grand-dad (or Greatgrand-dad) was a farmer". Nowadays, everyone is 2 generations further removed (from the farm) and I never hear that..... .

OT is ok, but Religion and Politics are too volatile for us quiet tractor owners. If you list all of the forums you will find one at the bottom of the list for such things as politics.

Yes Ben, I know that we are not as civilized as the UK residents (witness British soccer fans), but even we know that it was an OT post. But, did you notice the description of the subject matter that the webmaster posts, I believe it has something to do with "tractor related topics". Maybe you hunt foxes on a Fordson, I can see it now in your red, white, and black finery. Very British don't you know!!!

Ben, Just a couple of points re your post.
The House of Commons has passed the vote. It now needs to be considered by the House of Lords. If the Lords throw it out, the government have threatened to invoke the Paliament Act and push it onto the statute book anyway.
There is still time for some compromises, but I think this may be unlikely.
It is not "all the townies", it is the labour government who are pushing this bill.
The rights or wrongs of the situation are probably more a political argument, along with the loud minority who call themselves anti-bloodsport activists. Having grown up hunting shooting and fishing, I know much more about these than you do and I know some of the fault does lie with the hunters, at least in the past.
My chief concern is that of the shooting fraternity - they will be next on the hit-list.
Some people even object to anyone shooting clay pigeons in case some only get injured!!
After that it will be the fishermen/anglers using fish hooks to traumatise the fish (as well as the landing and keep nets).

Perhaps by the time the next election comes along, you will be able to vote and have your say on the ballot paper. I hope so - we need all the votes we can get to reverse this thing or make it more sensible.
The only downside of that might be a Tory government!!
Regards, RAB

It is a known fact that the drastic reduction in the fox population due to hunting has allowed their primary food source, the clay pigeon, to grow it's population to absurd numbers. Taking away people's guns and making them eat mung beans will be the only way to restore their respective populations to pre-industrialized numbers.

If you guys weren't so ignorant, you would see that.

BTW-it is against the law to order a rare hamburger in Massachusetts or NJ. Pisses me off that I can't even have my food the way I want it.

Then after 2-3 years when the fox population grows so big, they start roaming the city streets looking for food and such, the you will reallly listen to the city folk whine and complain. Best thing to do is to vote the morons out of office that voted for this rediculous act of stupidity.

Well now.

I suppose that would be like the United States banning deer hunting because a child got shot on accident (which happens all the time by the way).

I couldn't even imagine the uproar a move like that would bring in the USA.

Massachusetts banned trapping 5+ years ago.

Flooded roads from Beavers, suburbanites complaining about ever increasing numbers of Coyotes offing with their cats & toy dogs...

Coyotes are a particular issue, "Well, we can't trap 'em, we can't poison 'em, and we can't shoot 'em safely in the burbs...so what exactly do want us to do?"

In the US, more people are injured or killed by encounters with deer than with any other animal. And those seeking gun bans are licking their chops over their prospects in November.

Can't realy comment cause I don't live there. But we in US have rodents call prairie dogs that raise a fight. I think that if we started calling them "prairie rats" we might find it easier to kill them. They live by the thousands, dig holes and mounds, kill the grass, and carry boubonic plague. Had a lady with plague last week in my county.
