MY 1959 MF65 rear tires are showing their age. I want to squeeze out the rest of the season on them. One is filled with water. Question: can I top off the rest of the pressure in that tire using AIR?

Mr what the rest of these pranksters forgot to tell you you may need new valve stems, used to work in tire shop and the stems will leak on older valves these are a cheap replacment item at any farm store. just make sure valve is on top that way if it leaks you won't lose much fluid. then add 18-20 lbs of air more than enough.

I also have a question about this, do i need to put some sort of an adaoter on my air line to stick a nit more air into my liquid filled tires? Or just park it with the valve at the top?

Thanks in advance

Ben

When tires are filled with liquid ballast they are filled only 3/4 of the way as water doesn't compress and you would destroy the tire and/or the rim the first time you hit a bump. The other 1/4 is obviously air so just position the valve at the top and fill like any other tire.

You guys totally wipe me out..... I'm considered something of a "wit" in my circle of friends, but I'm out of my league here. Usually it's the answers which have me laughing 'til I cry, but you've topped them all..... I've got to go see about an 18.4 x 38 tire this afternoon.....can't wait to tell the guys at the tire shop. Putting air in a tractor tire.....

While you were learning to be witty, you didn't read the post very carefully.

A couple of things. If it is filled with calcium chloride solution beware that any leaks could seriously corrode your rim. If is water, I hope you are in a frost-free climate.
The tyre should only be filled to the level of the valve, while at the top of the wheel. The tyre is then inflated with air. A tyre completely full of liuid could be dangerous as liquids are non-compressible. regards, RAB
