Recently purchased a used GM vehicle for my wife. Came equipped with the Dextron antifreeze. Out of curiosity, checked it with my regular hydrometer, and it read lower freezing point than any of the green stuff ever has even though it seems very thin. Question - does the orange stuff read correctly on a regular hydrometer, or do I need a different one for it? When I do a flush and replace do I do the regular 50/50 mix with Dextron like I do with the regular stuff?

I just thought i would let you know that after having to replace the intake gaskets on a Chev Luminia at a G.M. dealers dealers garage they flushed out the Dex-Cool antifreeze and replaced it with new Gold colored antifreeze. They said that Dex Cool had many problems and most dealers were not using it anymore. Do a Google search of Dex Cool to read about its problems. HTH

Isn't this interesting? I have been using Dex Cool for over 8 years now with zero problems. Makes you wonder.

You had me worried for a minute. Dexron is ATF, the coolant is DEX-COOL.

Any auto parts store can sell you a DEX-COOL tester. And yes, you use the same ratios as the green stuff... the instructions and chart are on the DEX-COOL bottle.
