Just saw on the news that the NE state fair is bankrupt apparently due to all the dairies closing down. Sad.

Just for grins... what is the store price for a gallon of milk? The price here is $3.50 so they sell almost none. The only dairies left here sell to the school lunch program. Of course, those of us who live in the boonies can buy it right out of the bulk tank at $1.75 but few do.

You're near Duluth, right? And you say the only dairies left here sell to the school lunch program???? I'm waiting for the explanation on that one, along with the rest of those in the dairy industry.

The grocery store price for a gallon here is $2.69, the corner gas station / store charges $2.99...still a bargain, compared to everything else we need!

I just read the article after seeing your post. Things like this breaks my heart. It appeared from the article I saw that the NE Dept of Ag and the state had withdrawn finaincial (an infrastructure) support.

Get ready folks, you ain"t seen nothin yet. The Hurricanes in Florida is bound to have an adverse effect on the largest dairy producing state putside of Wisconsin. Its a good thing I have a well, as I couldnt afford to put water on my corn flakes at the price they get for bottled water. 80 cents for 16 0z, comes out to $6.40 per gal in my math. It won"t be long before gasolene will look pretty cheap at $2.00 per gal., as compared to most of the other liquids we buy.

That is sad, what is even sadder milk $3.50 Gal!! but it doesn't stop people from buying soda and beer at that price and more. I don't know what state you are in, but in Mo. if the dairy farmer is caught selling milk out of his tank. They will come down on him like stink on $^&$. ex dairy farmer

Why cant a guy sell his milk the way he wants too. Does the government restrict the sales so as to raise the price for everybody or what?

As I understand it in Mo. You can sell anything you produce on your farm. The catch here is that for a farmer to sell Grade A, he has to sign a contract with the creamary he sells to that he will not sell to any one else and they the, big boys say the neighbor is somebody else and if you do that is a breach of contract.

Kurt, The neighborhood farmer can "give" you as much milk out of his vat as he wants to, but according to most state"s sanitary laws, cannot sell to the public. All milk has to be pasteurized before it can be sold.

Actually, soda is cheaper. Not beer necessarily though. I don"t drink, for the most part, but a couple of weeks ago, a beer sounded so good with dinner at about 10PM on a Saturday. No place to get beer in Bristol, IN. that late on a Saturday night, except the local bar. A 12 pack of Killians Red, $15 (no tip). It was a good beer, and I"ve got 11 more that will be settin" in the fridge for ???, but it was a good beer.

Milk? In a glass 1/2 gallon by Oberwiess? $3.50 by me. I hate plastic, love the tase of glass, but will be puttin Pepsi in my oatmeal, I guess.
