I have a 10 year old 13-38HXL toro lawn tractor, it works fine for 15min of grass cutting then it starts to slow down foward or reverse. If I let it cool down it is ok again for 15min. I checked the oil level an it is ok. I believe the hydro needs rebuilding but I don"t have any info on what needs to be changed in it. The toro dealer dosent sell a rebuild kit (which would give a indication of what normally needs to be changed) Does anyone know where I can get info on rebuilding this rear end?

Try so diagnosing before jumping in. It appears that heat and oil thinning is a factor. Try mounting a pressure test gauge on the ports and find out. Is there an oil cooler that is internally or externally plugged? Who knows if its dirt, sludge, plugged filter, sump screen, just a worn pump or what. Could just even be the wrong oil accidentally dumped in there. Odds are a scrapped tractor with a working transmission could be found cheaper than doing a rebuild. These transaxles are common across most brands/models.

thanks for the response but none of the things you mentioned would have the same symptions of after allowed to cool down it works fine until it runs enough that it heats up and again it goes slow in foward and reverse. I have more info on this that I will share with you. I called hydro-gear and talked to a tech. He said there is no rebuild kit but he went through what I should replace. there is a pump block assy that cost $56.00 ( that has the cylinder and pistons together) and a motor block assy for $42.00 then a center section for $92.00 then a seal kit for $22.00 That should just about do it, Thats $212.00 . I could buy a brand new hydro rear for $328.00 with the shipping so I think that is what I will do. It dosen"t make any sense to rebuild the old one. you can look up your hydro transaxle, just search the net for "outdoordistributors"

Good luck
