I am trying to figure out how to identify a couple of different McCormick tractors. One is maybe a 10-20 model McCormick-Deering. Cleat wheels, hand crank. I have found numbers all over it but nothing like a data plate to tell me a serial number. Where or what do I look for to tell me the model and year?

The other is a McCormick 300 L.P. Gas. How can I tell what year it was built?

Frank: The 300 is either 54, 55 or 56 being the only years they were built. If you don't have a serial number, look at the casting codes. Z is 54, A is 55, etc. V was not used so you should be able to apply this to 10-20 as well. Casting codes could well be a year or two before tractor was built.

The 10-20 only has one fuel tank, It's bigger brother the 15-30 has a main fuel tank with a water tank in front of it. The seam is hidden underneat an extra strap. Both then have a small round tank for starting on gas. Only the very early 10-20s had a two compartment fuel tank and it is all one tank.

The fuel tank is missing on this one. I noticed a valve and other places in the engine castings where it says Kerosine and Gasoline. I think this water tank is still in place. So if I understand correctly, this is probably a 15-30 since there are two separate tanks? (one water, one gas?) Was there a third tank for the other fuel?
