I bought one at a sale for $80. not knowing what I would use it for. its small hand held uses a laser beam and takes a tempeture from a couple inches to 15' or more away. I finished up rolling hay for the season yesterday and brough the round baler back to the shed with the last bale in it. I kicked on the PTO and took the thermometer and checked the temp of all the bearings. no crawing around, just point and shoot and you have the temp. all the bearings were between 90-95 degrees, except one it was at 125 degrees. now I can replace that bearing this winter instead of next hay season when I have hay on the ground. neat! it paid for its self

Joe;

We've used them in industry for quite a few years. They are a valuable tool, like any tool it must be used properly to get the full value out of it.

Not knowing what make model you have I can only say that the one's I've worked with had to be "calibrated" for the surface you are trying to read; or they can be way out of the ballpark for an accuracy reading. Yet at the same time be useful for relative indications. ( The header temp variations pointing to a combustion problem in a cylinder.)

You may be able to get on line and find some info on yours. I saw them at the Fastener store for about what you paid.

Like all electronics, prices are coming down fast.

Now I wounder, if I can point it at the cat and know when she's coming in to season??

We have one at the shop, it is very handy. The only problem we have found with using them is , they are not very accurate when the target surface is shiny.

Saw a guy use one of those at an interstate rest area to see if any of his tires were running hot indicating underinflation.

You can also use it to check wheel bearings and brake drums/rotors and, by checking the temperatures along the exhaust manifold, if a diesel engine cylinder is misfiring. Another use is to check various circuit breakers in your house to determine if one is running hot indicating either a failing breaker or poor electrical connection.

You can also check for cooler Cylinders on the exsaust manifold , cold spots in you radiator, hot spots on the block showing clogged water jackets, hot wheel bearings ect. Mark H.

We refer to an auction as a sale. I should have said auction. I got no paper work with it, so I don't know much about it the trade mark is UEI model is INF150. it looks new, with the price of electronics being so cheap, maybe I paid to much????
