Yesterday I was running a teddar with our TO-35 when the Manifold extension broke leaving the engine blowing hot gas on the area of the carburetor which promptly caught fire. It was only by pure luck that there was a fire extinguisher nearby and we got off with only a few burned wires and the rubber tube that connects the carburetor to the air cleaner. They say its good to get your heart rate up sometimes but this is not the way.
Going out to get a bunch of two pound ABC,s and find a way to mount them on everything I have that moves and or burns fuel.

I have fire extinguishers in all of the most likely locations. On the tractor, each end of the shop, tractor shed, 3 in house, all vehicles. Sure hope I don't ever need them, but cheap insurance. Also sort of like a murphys law kind of thing... The better prepared you are for a disaster the less likely it is to happen.

Been there dun that! Dame near blew the fuel tank off it! I ran a 1/4 mile called the fire department than ran for the fire extinguisher in the barn and drove the truck back expecting the Woods would be on fire and tractor destroyed! Repairable damage to the tractor but I think the radiator hose burning up extinguished most of the fire and drove back to the road where the fire department whose arriving. now I have a fire extinguisher on it.

You bring up a good point about the extinguishers. I'd add also to make sure that equipment has adequate fire insurance. I had a tractor catch fire a few years ago, like you was able to put it out. Two years later it caught again in the same spot, only this time I didnt see it until it was too late. Barely got out of the cab (apparently the lower right cab mount bushing was loose enough to allow the cab to pich the wiring on top of the torque tube). I had it covered both times, sure glad I did.
