Would like to know the year this tractor was built. The identification tag is on the flywheel housing. The only numbers I can read are 3463 J.
Thanks, Don.

Don: Lewis is right, your tractor is neither an A or a Super A. Its either a 100, 130 or 140. Serial tag should be on the left side of clutch housing. First thing that tipped me of was the J in the serial number, stands for Rockford clutch and IH only started using those in mid 50s. With SA all having 6 diget serial numbers, your 4 diget number could only indicate it is a number series tractor.

Don,
If the serial number is on the clutch/flywheel housing, it is newer than a Super A, that is, a Farmall 100, 130 or 140, which are just newer editions of the Super A. Good tractors, I have three of the variety.

The serial number should be on an aluminum ID plate mounted on the inside of the left seat mount bracket.
I don't know that it holds true for the Super As, but on some early IH tractors the engine and chassis numbers matched. Your engine serial number should be on the front right side of the engine near the top edge of the block on a flat machined area. Stamped into the casting.
Disregard the previous paragraph other than for general info. I just checked my Super A parts book and it states that no effort was made for matching the engine and chassis serial numbers on these tractors.

The serial number you gave would be for a 1939 A, not a Super A. for it to be a Super A, the number would have to be 6 digits lon, not 4. Check on the upper right side of the engine for a stamped serial number. If it starts with FAA it's an A, if it starts with FAAM, it's a Super A.

I cleaned off the pad on the engine where the serial # should be, there is nothing at all there.
I can see the mill marks where it was milled down, there is nothing there. This tractor has hydraulics and water pump and one point hitch. It should be a Super A. There is no tag on the left hand seat bracket I will take pictures and send if you think it would help. Thanks, Don
