Need a YR series Yazoo, parts or whole

Hey all,

I tried getting the transmission into forward gear this evening after replacing belts, spindles, re-adjusting the clutches, pulleys, etc., and the mower won't go forward. I have looked into the trans inspection area and the three tabs on the forward drive gear appear to have been mangled pretty badly, one appears to have been sheared off, so I drained the gearbox in anticipation of overhauling it.

Does anyone out there have an old Yazoo they'd like to sell, either whole or parts? I'm in MD, but drove all the way to Missouri to get this one, stranger things have happened. The one I own could either be a base unit or a parts mower for a better candidate.

Thanks in advance,

Kurt

Kurt,

Just spoke to a local man that has worked on the YR series machines and if he gets a chance he'll post a message tonight or over the weekend. He mentioned that you might be able to do an adjustment to that transmission to get it to work.
He also might have a spare transmission too.

Kurt,

I carried a Yazoo mower (I think it was actually a different brand name made by Yazoo) to a fellow in MD this past spring. See photo in "Help Identify" in case my post doesn't work. Not sure if this one is anything like the one you have because I think this one had a two-cylinder engine. Anyway, he might have others or might know where some are in MD. Let me know and I'll try to get his email address and/or phone #.

I am aware of your problem. I have operated Yazoo mowers for 30 years. I have recently purchased A zero turn mower. I have A YR 60 with twin cylinder Wisconsin for sale. I also have A rebuilt transmission. Will sell both as one sale. E-mail if you need more info. Thanks

Kurt ,when the oil drained out was the oil about #30?, if it is heavier like #90 the clutches will not work, only use #30 engine oil in that transaxle. You said the tabs looked torn up? How many inspection plates are on top of that tranny...one or two? Might be just be out of adjustment, some say it's easy to adjust and others (like me use caution because I dropped the spring down into the gears once and had to take the tranny off the machine and tip it upside down to get it out) There is a guy at the PORTLAND, INDIANA (tri-state gas engine show) this weekend that had two rigs for sale, they are older, wednesday he had two tractors ,( both single cylinder models)and decks, price was $600 for all, he even had an extra frame and tranny. I'm going back up this afternoon

Is your comment about #30 oil vs #90 based on personal experience, Yazoo recommendation or both.

I've been using 80W90 in mine and it works. Should I drain it and put in 30 weight? Detergent or non-detergent?

Doug,

Thanks for the reply.

Not knowing any better, I had topped off the transmission with 60 wt gear oil, I didn't have a manual at the time, but now it appears the three fingers on the forward drive gear have sheared off to the point they can't keep the clutch packs in alignment. There's nothing left for them to grab. So I'll need another forward drive gear at a minimum. Having a spare transmission, and an extra mower my wife can use to speed up the mowing process would be great. Transmission's coming out tonight and getting torn down. My mower has a single cylinder Wisconsin (AGND) engine.

The transmission has two circular inspection plates, one for forward and one for reverse. I know what you mean about dropping the spring, almost happened to me last week.

If you happen to get up there this afternoon and can get a name and phone number of this guy, I'd appreciate if you could drop me a line and let me know.

Thanks,

Kurt

Kurt, That guy was gone along with his Yazoo stuff on Friday at the Portland show, but here is a name of the place we now deal with: Wagoner Power Equipment, 520 West National Road, Englewood, Ohio 45322 (937) 836-9611. We found them to be quick with the parts and informative about the Yazoo mowers. hope you can get it fixed up soon, holler if you get in a bind!

Wow!

Thanks for all the feedback!

Doug, let me know what you find after you return from the show, if anything at all. Appreciate it, believe me. Might be another road trip in the making.

Kevin, yes I'm interested in any leads you might have in MD, and I might be interested in heading down your way if you have anything. Or know anybody that might.

Todd, thanks for the offer. Is the manual you speak of the standard owners manual for Yazoos or does it get into specific details, for example, overhauling a transaxle? I did find a gentleman on this website who sold me a copy of the standard owners manual, which has been helpful, but doesn't really get into a lot of specifics.

Yazoo Rider, from what I read in the manual I purchased, the transaxle should have 40 weight non detergent heavy duty oil. Unfortunately I can't speak from experience.

Thanks also to Ron Howell from Australia, whom I've conversed with via emails and has been more than helpful in helping me troubleshoot the problems with the transaxle.

Tomorrow I'll be opening up the transaxle case and trying to make a determination of the amount of damage done.

Thanks to all on the board who have responded to this and other questions I've had. This is one great forum, and I'll have to get some support going towards those who've made it all possible.
