I have a John Deere B, and i have quite a big problem. I have my rear end gear oil getting into the engine block and I have no idea what would cause it. Can anyone tell me what could cause it and how to fix it? Any help would greatly appriciated.

That is a tough one...at least for me. The transmission is driven through the first reduction gear on the right side of the engine-transmission housing. To my knowledge there is no direct connection between the engine oil and the transmission oil. So unless both seals are gone, and the reduction gear housing is full of 140 weight, I don't see how it can get in there.

The fill plug of the transmission oil is roughly the same elevation as the engine oil at least on an unstyled B.

Are you sure that its transmission oil and not water that is getting in the engine?

If you are sure, how about taking off the crancase cover and look down inside to see if there is a hole or crack in the casting that seperates the engine from the transmission?
