Here's the deal.

I don't know one egg from another, but these tires are filled to the brim with fluid; over the stem.

Yesterday, I go out to cut 5 acres of grass. "I'll just roll it outside without starting it, as to not smoke up the garage", says I.

Didn't happen. I'm kind of a rippy little feller, but I couldn't budge that old sow an inch, hard as I tried; so maybe there is something to the "fluid being hard to pull" theory.

If those tires would have been empty, I know darned well that I could have rolled that thing outside via my scrawny little self.

Dunno,

Allan

If you remove the fluid and attach weights to the rear equal to what you lost with the fluid, it should be about the same difficulty to push. You were also probably fighting some flat spots on the tires, which can occur after only a couple days of sitting and will quickly get straightened out after driving around a bit.

Allan,

How could you even think of cutting grass with that beauty??? (smile)

Get a goat or something; that's a nice looking machine! Thanks for sharing the pic with us!

Thanks Tommy,

But, I didn't rework the old heifer to not have her work.

But darnit, I still find myself washing it after every time I use it.....that urge will quit in time, won't it?

Rolling resistance is a function of the tire contact patch and has nothing to do with ballast. It is influenced by tire design, both sidewall and tread, and air pressure.

What you experienced is simply the added static weight of the ballast... "an object at rest tends to stay at rest".

I'm sure there is slight friction of the fluid but the greater resistance would be from the added weight.
