I posted a message awhile ago in regards to this tractor.I have a JD 60 Orchard that I would like to restore,it was purchase new and has been in the family since new.The entire tractor was repainted yellow. In my last post I was trying to find out what model it was and at that time was told it was a JD 60,anyway since then I found the original operators manual hoping I coud find the tractor number and find out what year it is.All family members are deceased so I have no idea of the year. In the manual it gives the location for the tractor number, distributor number and powr-trol,however the tractor number is to be located below the distributor cab according to the manual.I carefully scaped and clean the paint from that area but no numbers or tag can be found. My questions are;Was the tag metal and riveted or was it a decal type?Is there another location for the tractor number I can look? The Delco distributor number is 1111558,Model 4D36 ???,the operators manual number is;OM-R2029R and is for serial numbers 6000001 and up..would this be any help in finding out what year it is ? This is all I have, if anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it..Thanks.John...

The Deere people hang out over here more. >Link

>Link A complete 60 orchard is a good find. Just going by memory but it could be a 55,56 or maybe a 57? The orchard models were built late in the 40/50/60/70/80 production and I think the 60 orchard even trailed a little into the 20 series production. They were a low seat 60 with added sheet metal. There never was a 630 orchard. They built the 620 orchard right through the 1959/1960 30 series production. I'll look tonight for more accurate info if you can find that tag under the paint. Two Cylinder club can run the serial number and find even more details. Rather than scrape the tag, try some paint remover. The distributor is the correct Delco model for that tractor. Real Deere parts, operators and service manuals can be had cheap from 1-800-522-7448. The serial number plate should be rivited to the crankcase on the pulley side of the tractor. Just below and in front of the belt pulley. Problem is sometimes thieves steal plates and build a rare tractor by mixing and matching parts.

Thank You for the info. Thanks to your input I found that tag,it wasn't where the manual stated but in front and below the pulley as you stated. It is a brass plate and riveted ,after carefully cleaning off the upteen coats of paint there it was "JOHN DEERE",MODEL JD60,Serial #6037427.Now all I would like to know is what year it is..Thanks again for helping me out..John...

In the John Deere 2 cyl buyer's guide the 60-O is 1952-1956 serial # 6000001-6063836 gas engine and All fuel engine and most inportant it gives it a 5 star rating wich means the best investment and good potential for appreciation. The book ISBN#0-87938-659-2 Motorbooks International. I have owned a 530 for twenty years and have done some repairs, bought a 60 couple of years ago and have some of the books and found them the most interesting also I subscribe to the Green Magazine, I buy the Hot Line Farm Equipment Guide it has serial numbers and weights of all tractors, that's a couple of hundred dollars total, but well worth the investment as have ran into lots of people who don't know the year of their tractors and I don't argue just leave if money isn't right, have fun Pat
