I have not purchased a manual for my 501 yet. Could someone tell me how long the pitman wood is supposed to be and maybe also what size bearings go inside the end of the pitman that attaches to the flywheel? Thanks.

I have 2 such mowers, and they have different frame lengths - not sure but I believe the pitman is longer on one than the other.

I don't know about any curved piece to lean on in storage? There is a small curved rod at the near end of the sickle bar to pull grass into the mower; and there is a curved C channel for the break-away mechanism as I described on that other thread.

If you say the break away but on mine I did not see anything attached to it and the mower would fall over without it, maybe dual purpose. Didnt look to see if it pivoted on the frame.

A stick measures roughly 37:3/4L X 1:5/8T X 1:1/8W
A Ford stick at NH cost about $11. They have a rivet through the tall side at the spring end. I drill the opposite end and put a 1/4" bolt to match the rivet because they seem to break out along the bolt line. I also started taping the stick with box tape because they appear to be boarder line weak. So far this season one stick. The person asking about the big curved arm toward the front that was cut off his. I believe all this was for is for the mower to lean on in storage. I have this on a salvage mower
The person asking about the bearings for the flywheel side of the pitman. I have a salvage mower that I started to renovate and bought these bearings for it. Bought about $40 sell for $25+sh.

I make mine - but they don't seem to be lasting very long lately - check one out at your local farm store....

if you still don't have any luck - I can measure and give u a rough measure

What lumber do you use that they haven't been lasting long? If you could measure yours for a rough estimate, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
