Does anyone have a idea or knowledge as to why the shear pin in the oil pump shaft is shearing for no apparent reason? Thank for your help Bob near Houston.

Excessive pressure due to:

Wrong bearing clearances
Wrong pressure relief
Wrong weight oil

A more remote possibility is that the pump is damaged/defective causing it to bind.

Ron, Thanks for the quick reply. I bought this tractor new in 1982 and only have 1800 actual hours on it. No previous problems, but have heard that this shear pin going has happened before. I was pulling a hay rake when the pin sheared. With the labor involved in just getting to the oil pump, I though I would check to try to determine if this is a recurring problem and try to head it off in the futrue. I wonder if new oil pumps are available for this motor? Thanks again. Bob in Houston
