Howdy. Been a few years since I have posted. Anyway, what ever happened to the Hercules engine company? I know they made a lot of engines for a lot of brands of equipment. Thanks.

Hercules ceased operations in Canton, Oh. in 1999. Some of the old execs got together and bought a lot of the inventory and such and moved to Massillon, Oh and started Hecules Engine Components. They are in the re-man business for their old products. More detail is available at the link below.

White took them over and they had a plant as said earlier in Canton Ohio. I think someone(s?) that worked for White bought the plant in the late 70's or early 80's. I have a friend who worked in the test lab lab in the mid late 80's. They did not have an approved EPA emissions test cell and subsequntly certified at South West Research Labs, which can be very expensive. They were selling repower engines to the military which at the time was the only good source of income. When this ran out, I believe they were looking at natural gas/propane to carry the company. When he was there, they scraped most if not all of the old stuff. They were obviously in financial trouble and he left. I suspect they are now only history.

Last one I saw is on my next door neighbor's 2050 Oliver. Probably built around 1968 or 69. Most parts are still available from Agco dealers. Jim.

I think they have an abandoned factory in Canton Ohio.

It was absorbed by White, and then I am not sure what happened after that.

My friend has a M274A4 "military mule" with an AO42 military standard engine. The builders plate on the engine says Hupp-Hercules. I guess it is the same Hupp that made the Huppmobile. At least this ties the Hercules name to another company.
