I am looking for a chore tractor to move round bales, snow, mow, etc. Looking at a JD 3010 gas with a loader for $5000. Also a IH 560 gas with a loader for $4000. Both about the same condition. Are both of these tractors capable of moving round bales with the 3pt? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We use a 560 diesel on our farm coupled with a F-11 Farmhand loader. It works good for feeding big round bales and doing other loader work. You mentioned using 3pt. The 560 came with a 2pt fast hitch as standard equipment so you will have to get a 2pt to 3pt adapter if the tractor is not already equipped with one. I have some experience with a 3010 and it was a good tractor as well. Feel free to email if you have any questions.

I have neighbor with Olivers. He wanted a tractor with loader for moving the round bales as you describe. He bought a 3010 with a loader on it. Yes , he does move round bales with it ok. However , after running the 3010 , he always says he can never figure out how John Deere got ahead of Oliver. He's had the 3010 about 3 or 4 years now. Another neighbor has a Farm-all "560". The problem he has is the hydraulics freezing up in the winter time. He has changed the hydraulic fluids , etc.. Just seams to get lots of condensation in the hydraulic system. And then it starts freezing up again. Otherwise , a good tractor. He's had the 560 about 30 years or so.

The 3010 will get a bit light on the front end, but with the loader on the tractor it should be fine. The 560 will be a bit heavier on the front to begin with but you will still want some extra weight on the front. Either tractor should do a good job for you.

Go with the 560. We had a 3010 diesel for years. It was the most expensive tractor to keep running that we ever had. It had good power but was always an oil leak looking for a place to happen and usually made a trip to the dealer's shop every 2-3 years.
